"Three bookstores" Posted by reporter on 15:40:02 3/24/2000 I went to three bookstores in the small city where we live to replenish a cookbook I publish. I looked for the DOI book and asked in all three stores if it was selling well. One said they had sold two books, the other two said, "people look at it, but it sure is not flying off the shelves." I decided if I buy it, it will be after it sells for a couple of dollars, or I can find it at a used book store. I tried to do the math. $700,000 advance, 300,000 printed. I don't have enough knowledge of the book publishing world to know how many the publisher would have to sell to actually make money. BTW I live in Colorado. "Chris" Posted by lecarl on 15:47:03 3/24/2000 I had no intention of buying the POS, but my grandaughter was visiting and She wanted to go to Costco, so I went with HER and because she is young I had to drive and when we got there I tried to go straight to the nicotine patches and frozen pizzas but I felt this strong force pulling me toward the book section. It was uncanny. I was just looking around, trying to see if there was a new Patricia Cornwell mystery and all of a sudden, my grandaughter shouted, "Grandma! Look! The Ramsey's have written a book! And it's half off!" I said, "No, no, put it down! Don't touch it!" But she put it in my basket and when I got home I didn't want to read it but it was the week-end and I didn't have anything else to do and THIS STRONG FORCE overcame me and I FOUND MYSELF reaching for the POS and , I have to confess, the book was read. Unfortunately, the second dog was smaller, but she decided to say he's lost weight while at the vet's. JBR looked at the dog & knew it wasn't her but STILL PR tried to convince her. "not a matter of holding out" Posted by Matt on 19:32:06 3/25/2000 In the nashville interview, John Ramsey stated the profits from this book would go to help pay their legal bills first...FIRST. In numerous articles published just before, and after the book hit the market, the same information was made public. So this (FOR ME) is not a case of "holding out", and I don't give a damn if the book cost 5 cents, or 5 dollars, or 15 dollars. It's a moral issue, an issue of what is right and what is wrong to me. Therefore, as a champion for justice for JonBenet, it would be highly hypocritical for me to give the very people who I believe took her life a dollar of my money. That's almost forked tongue like, or two faced. I would feel as if I had betrayed JonBenet. I won't do it. When it becomes an issue of right and wrong, right wins out for me way ahead of curiosity. So I'll pass, and sleep well knowing I haven't helped those SOBs with any of my money. On the flip side of that coin, I ordered through my local bookstore a copy of Thomas' book for my mom, one for my grandfather, and one for myself. To each his own. Or, as my grandfather likes to say "whatever turns yo' crank." And helping killers out ain't my cup o' tea. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 90. "Matt" Posted by Hannah on 19:51:53 3/25/2000 NOTE: This message was last edited 19:51:53, 3/25/2000 Excellent post, and I agree. I will not put one dime of my money in their pockets. Money comes to easy to them, and they have done nothing to deserve any of it, including the Star money, if any was received. These two people care about two things, money and their name, and not necessarily in that order. They don't even give a hoot about JonBenet's death either. In truth, watching them makes me ill, and I hope they realize that they are making fools of themselves. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 92. "Never," Posted by Chart on 22:02:45 3/25/2000 never had even the slightest desire to read anything written by them. I appreciate the reporting done by those who did buy, simply for sleuthing purposes. I agree with Matt that it would be wrong to help them with book sales. (Probably accounts for the way I turned out). I still have the irradiated dime they gave every little kid as a memento. Only during the Cold War, right??? And do they still display that irradiated fly, the size of a large terrier? For those who are unfamiliar with Oak Ridge, none of this is made up. Fra---Try it and you may, I say. reporter--where in Colorado do you live? I'm in central Denver...across the street from Congress Park. "I would buy it" Posted by starfish on 00:36:40 3/26/2000 with one of my Christmas gift certificates (which is pretty slimy ofme) and then, for the price of third class postage, send it on to someone, who could then do the same -- in the end, the post office would profit the most.
