"Legal Fund for ST" Posted by v_p on 21:23:17 3/31/2001 NOTE: This message was last edited 21:23:17, 3/31/2001 Steve Thomas has hired Sherill Whisenand of the Los Angeles PR firm, Wise Communications, and has set up a legal defense fund. Phone number 818.762.4422 edited to say I will call and verify an address as soon as my 16 year old gets off the other phone :) [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 1. "thanks, V-P!" Posted by Edie Pratt on 21:34:28 3/31/2001 is that a good lawyer, do you know? I've never heard of him, but that doesn't mean anything, lol. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 2. "No, I don't" Posted by v_p on 21:38:46 3/31/2001 know anything about him. I actually got the number from another site and I'm still waiting for the phone... tap, tap, tap. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 3. "K," Posted by v_p on 21:57:59 3/31/2001 I called the number and it is to the law offices of his attorney and there is an extension to his, (Steve's), office. A message says he can also be reached by email at 4stevethomas@yahoo.com or it may be forstevethomas@yahoo.com I don't think upper or lower case matters in yahoo mail. I left a message telling him we at JW are behind him all the way ... [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 4. "I understand" Posted by Tricia on 23:08:24 3/31/2001 that Ms. Whisenand is a family friend not an attorney. Plus if hir is saying anything negative about Ms Whisenand then you know she is a wonderful human being. I can only hope someday I annoy hir enough to post negative about me. That would make my day. Here's an idea, when the information is available about Thomas's defense fund why don't we do this. EVERYBODY WHO THINKS PATSY IS INVOLVED PLEASE SEND 1.00 FOR THE THOMAS DEFENSE FUND. Just think we would have 270 million in 24 hours. Thanks v_p for starting this thread. Tricia [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 5. "uhhhh ..." Posted by Gemini on 00:29:02 4/01/2001 have the forum rules changed? I thought soliciting was verboten. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 6. "Hi Gemini" Posted by Tricia on 00:45:12 4/01/2001 Yes you are right. I sent email to Chris to see how she wants to handle this since I know many people will want to donate money. Since this is a bit different than an individual poster asking for money for personel reasons, I am hoping we can at least give out the information and let the posters decide if they want to donate. This is directly related to the case and could affect the final outcome. Thanks for pointing this out Gemini. Last thing I want to do is get Chris mad. She might send those geese to honk at me in the morning. LOL. Tricia [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 7. "It will be worth it." Posted by dcbsvon on 07:33:51 4/01/2001 I'll gladly chip in. Every step we take towards gaining more information is worth it. Besides, I enjoyed the book and all the "inside scoop" that he could provide. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 8. "V_P" Posted by momo on 07:39:26 4/01/2001 Thanks for starting this thread and posting his web addy. Gemini, I'm sure alot of us want to chip in to ST's defense fund. There would really be no other way of knowing about it unless it is posted. Steve is just covering his bases early on and being a smart businessman. All the spin at the public bathroom is just that-spin. It's funny how they talk about him hiring a PR person. He didn't do it after he murdered his child. He knows that he's got the majority of people on his side. Why wouldn't he hire a PR firm even if it is one of his friends! Go STEVE! [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 9. "What is" Posted by Msracoon on 07:46:31 4/01/2001 a "bit different" about this? It is a poster(s) asking for contributions for someone else. It is "a bit the same". Thanks, Ms.Racoon [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 10. "Steve Thomas" Posted by Greenleaf on 08:06:11 4/01/2001 is fast becoming a "cause celebre." IMHO, anti-Rams from everywhere will spontaneously help him out financially, as the Ram lawsuit against him goes forward. However, I am turned off by him soliciting funds for his legal defense, and/or hiring a PR firm. I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday. Greenleaf [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 11. "Tricia," Posted by v_p on 09:00:36 4/01/2001 You're right, the phone is answered, "You have reached the office of Sherrill Whisenhand at Wise..." I didn't catch the last part, and then gives ST's connection. Well Gem, why don't you press the alert button and if this is "verboten" Chris, Pedro, or China will likely delete the thread. K? [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 12. "You know" Posted by momo on 09:08:18 4/01/2001 I don't see anybody here asking anyone to donate. I see someone passing on information. BTW, I think ST is having an overwhelming response and had no other alternative but to hire someone. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 14. "v_p" Posted by Tricia on 10:22:08 4/01/2001 You have mail. Email me when you get a chance. I would like to clear up a misconception. It is my understanding that Steve Thomas did not hire a P.R. firm. This is a family friend who is helping him out becase of the overwhelming response to the lawsuit. Greenleaf I don't know Thomas. Never met him. I just know what I read in the book and what I have seen on tv. I really don't think he would set up a defense fund unless he really needed it. I don't believe for a second he is going to get rich off of this. Besides I have been asking for a while where I send in my check if he was sued. It's something I want to do. Nobody asked me. It's the only thing I can do so I can feel like I am doing something. Anything. On another note, Greenleaf your "interview" with the Ramseys is a classic. Thanks again. Tricia [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 13. "Pro Bono Offer" Posted by New York Lawyer on 10:13:58 4/01/2001 Just for the record: Several months ago, I offered to represent Steve Thomas, pro bono, and absorb all of his legal costs. "msracoon" Posted by Tricia on 10:50:13 4/01/2001 NOTE: This message was last edited 10:50:13, 4/01/2001 Yes this is "a bit different" because it directly affects the reason we are all here. It has to do directly with the JonBenet case. Plus as was pointed out, nobody is asking for a donation. Just passing on information. That is the difference. New York Lawyer that was very kind of you to offer. I have no idea what Thomas's situation is with his lawyers. Also NYL when are you going to be on tv again? Don't hesitate to let us know ok? Many people are behind you NYL. Keep it going. Thanks Tricia edited because I signed my name twice. Spring forward always messes up my brain activity. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 16. "That was nice, NYL" Posted by Cassandra on 10:38:48 4/01/2001 I certainly hope he takes you up on it. You are a treasure trove of info about the case. "I agree Cassie" Posted by starry on 11:00:23 4/01/2001 Posting Steve Thomas's information is entirely different that soliciting help for personal situations. NYL, I hope ST will take you up on your offer. Very kind of you. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 18. ""Public Relations"" Posted by Sabrina on 13:04:58 4/01/2001 I am sure that the MAIN reason Steve Thomas "hired" a public relations firm is to have someone to answer inquiries, requests for interviews, etc. With his home and business address being posted I am sure there are no end to the requests. Remember, a few months ago he had to block his email and I.M.'s from a certain pirson that was harassing him. Unlike other nameless others, Steve Thomas goes to work everyday and is "employable" and does not sue people for a living. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 19. "PR Firm..." Posted by Country Girl on 14:05:21 4/01/2001 Now this case might generate more than the 200 calls that Morgan stated his office had to field in a week. I remember at the time I watched the crock and saw him make that statement that most of us in a busy office would be able to handle an extra 5 calls an hour without having to hire help. Sounds to me like Steve is hoping to be able to hire outside attorney staff in addition to the publisher's attorneys in case they automatically want to settle as most cases do. This is just a guess on my part. In addition, there are 'does' that might need financial assistance and I don't know if the publisher is obligated to defend them. NYL might have answers to that. Thanks NYL for offering your services to Steve. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 20. "Gee I thought" Posted by JR on 14:37:49 4/01/2001 NOTE: This message was last edited 14:37:49, 4/01/2001 The original post on solicitation of funds was satirical (with a bit of seriousness) behind it. Guess I better go back to bed. April Fool's and a time change have done my analytical skills in. Thanks NYL for offering ST your services. I am wondering how many of these folks you have time to represent and will any be construed as a conflict of interest? Edited to say: I also took Gems post as humourous rather than critical of the prior post. Sigh...guess I am tired. I hate mornings...oh it is afternoon isn't it? [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 21. "no JR" Posted by Gemini on 17:31:08 4/01/2001 not intended to be either humorous or, especially, critical. Your call. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 22. "just to clarify" Posted by Gemini on 17:35:29 4/01/2001 Have any of you stopped to think that this "beg" may put pressure on some who feel a need for approval from the "clique" faction? Why not just post one email address for whoever wants to volunteer to coordinate a mass donation? [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 32. "Gemini" Posted by JR on 00:16:39 4/02/2001 NOTE: This message was last edited 00:16:39, 4/02/2001 Sorry I mis-interpreted your message. "Dear Gemini" Posted by Tricia on 17:45:28 4/01/2001 I think we are all big enough to make our own decisions. This isn't high school. I am not worried about "pressure". As adults we should be able to decide what to do with our own money. I for one don't need protection from pressure since I don't feel any. If you read this thread nobody is asking anyone to send money. It's just information being passed along and people posting thier thoughts about the situation. Tricia ps v_p I like it when you use "k" [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 25. "Tricia" Posted by Gemini on 18:04:16 4/01/2001 I think we are all big enough to make our own decisions. This isn't high school. I am not worried about "pressure". As adults we should be able to decide what to do with our own money. I for one don't need protection from pressure since I don't feel any. Well of course you don't feel pressure, Tricia ... it's your thread. But, if you don't think the approval rating for joining this effort can be construed as "pressure", you aren't considering the thoughts and feelings others may have. As adults, it seems at least a little desirable to go with the forum rules and take this to email. No one's address need be compromised ... start a new hot mail account for this particular purpose ... if you're willing to take responsibility. Call it helpsteve@hotmail.com ... or whatever. Sorry if you feel defensive (no pun intended : ) ). This was a suggestion, not a dictate. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 24. "Gemini" Posted by momo on 17:58:21 4/01/2001 Who is it that's begging? [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 26. "momo" Posted by Gemini on 18:08:24 4/01/2001 Stop and think. Would you feel the same if the suggested recipient of suggested donations were a poster in (perceived) need? I doubt it. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 27. "gee whiz" Posted by driver on 18:43:48 4/01/2001 lighten up, Gemini. And you just won't let go, will you? Frankly, using a little common sense wouldn't hurt. How could you possibly think an address for donations to a defense fund could create pressure? Do you think names of contributors will be listed? Or that there will be a special sheet for those who do not contribute? Your idea for making a mass contribution would be far more problematic in that area. If your idea were taken I wonder how long it would take a naysayer to question if the "collector" of said mass contribution was skimming off the top or if a list of those who contributed would be circulated around through email. It just isn't as big of a deal as you are making it, Gemini. Don't participate if you don't like it. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 28. "Well gee whiz back atcha" Posted by Gemini on 18:51:16 4/01/2001 driver. lighten up, Gemini. And you just won't let go, will you? You mean I'm supposed to change my opinion because you or tricia or momo don't like it? Would you call that "pressure"? Hmmmm ..... Well, for whatever it's worth, I disagree with you. I've seen the clique apply pressure before and it smells just like this thread smells to me. The forum rules should have been consulted and Chris' permission asked before this snowball ever was packed and pitched. She has the final call on it. jmo, as usual [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 29. "k Gem," Posted by v_p on 19:54:14 4/01/2001 Please point out to me where in any of my posts on this thread I asked for money to be contributed to anyone? I made a statement not a request. Do you contribute to this forum? If so, you are doing it to keep justice for JBR going, right? Chris has never once asked for a donation that I can remember; we give to keep the fight going. To me, it's the same with Steve Thomas. If you want to contribute, fine, if you don't, that's "k" too :o) V. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 31. "v_p, I guess" Posted by Gemini on 22:32:05 4/01/2001 I owe you an apology, because I now see you're the one who started this thread - not Tricia. Should have known. So, if there was no intention of asking for money (and let us call those "contributions" what they are ... no point in trying to skirt around it), why did anyone feel the need to ask permission? You can play with words all day; the intent is clear and obvious. IMO, what you want to promote is that same old double standard (yet again), in which something is a no-no unless a certain few of you want to do it ... then it's OK. BTW, the other "support Steve" thread looks like a good and productive confab. The only thing that I'd suggest is to take the ideas about sending money to email. Don't really understand why that seems to bother you so. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 33. "Gem" Posted by v_p on 06:37:33 4/02/2001 Whatever. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 34. I have little time for posting and staying in touch with anyone but I'm very interested in JFJBR. I don't feel "pressured" nor that I'm being asked for money. I feel he has contributed greatly to keeping this story alive and giving info that he is taking a hit for now. He took a great risk in releasing some information and I for one am glad that he cares. I'm happy that this thread was started so I feel I can help him now. thanks v_p....:) [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 35. "honest question" Posted by Scully on 07:33:21 4/02/2001 Does anyone know if ST's book was a best seller? It's possible he made enough cash off the sale of his book as well as the numerous internet chats and public appearances he's made that he might not even require monetary assistance. I wouldn't mind sending ST a few bucks towards his legal defense but would hope he would return my check if he didn't need it. Best of luck to you, Steve. Please let me know if you're ever in need of a carpenter's apprentice. I specialize in carpentry and have won numerous awards for my whittling skills. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 37. "in case you were wondering" Posted by mary99 on 08:40:10 4/02/2001 I won't be sending any money to ST. Not only is he most likely covered for libel by his publisher, but his theory, imo, suks. I believe his earnest attempt to call Patsy the killa is nothing but a ruse to point away from the real perp. Good 'old John Boy and Steve's buddy Fleet have had my hinky meter on alert for quite a while. If NYL offered his services to ST free of charge, pro bono, and ST didn't take him up on that offer, he doesn't need any financial aid from me. Hiring a PR person is tacky. This I assume is so Pretty Boy can get his mug on TV everywhere and keep the public's mind off the sexual abuse theme running SCREAMING through this murder and instead focus the public's attention on mothers in rages who bash in their kids head and garr-OAT them when they wet the bed on Christmas. Yeah right. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 38. "Rules" Posted by doScubie on 09:26:09 4/02/2001 I don't know what all the fuss about the 'rules' are, but I would support JW and ST if needed. This is the only way I can keep up with the case, and it is the reason we're here afterall. I see nothing wrong with it, because it may help solve the murder. With all of us sleuthing together, and the actions of honest, justice-seeking people such as Steve, I don't see any problem with donations. It should NOT be a competition, if that's what some are concerned about. Just provide an e-mail address where we can talk about it, and an address that I can mail my money. Rules or no rules, this is a good cause, IMO. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 39. "doScoobie" Posted by mary99 on 09:37:53 4/02/2001 I have no problem with people donating to a ST-supported web address, like his PR person might set up, but I think there are inherent problems with *a* poster (no one in particular, just in general) collecting money which may not end up where the donating parties intended. This type of thing was the problem before which led to a change in the Rules. A PayPal-enabled web address run by ST's PR agent would be the appropriate place to forward donations. It would also keep members here from what, as Gemini pointed out, amounts to a 'roll call' of who is in the ST fan club. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 40. "Mary" Posted by doScubie on 10:02:45 4/02/2001 I agree. "doScubie" Posted by mary99 on 10:15:14 4/02/2001 I don't think there are anything but good intentions in starting this thread or donating to ST, but when the lines get blurred between what is or isn't within the Rules, problems eventually crop up. Sorry about getting your name wrong in the subject line. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 42. "IMO" Posted by Country Girl on 10:36:31 4/02/2001 I think there is a BIG misconception around here that many posters are nothing but bobbing heads riding around on the dashboards of cars looking for direction before we can make a decision! It's insulting! [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 43. "Thanks" Posted by Tricia on 10:51:53 4/02/2001 Country Girl. You are right.Thank you. I like the idea of a PayPal web link somewhere for people to make donations. We will have to wait and see how they will handle donations. I don't think anyone wants to take responsibilty for collecting money from forum members. This thread is not about Collecting or Asking for money. It's about information concerning the case and one of its main players. Nothing more. Now calm down. If you don't want to have anything to do with Thomas then you don't have to. It is nobody's business who donates what to whom. How would we know anyway who is giving and who is not? Being adults we can decide for ourselves if we want to donate. Thanks Tricia [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 44. I think I wrote a letter to them after the criminal trial. Anyway, they sent long progess letters from time to time and I felt like "one of the fold." In the old days we just thought things got taken care of by agencies, or others, somehow, but I have long since learned that we have to put our money where our mouth is (if we can). What's more, we do have to be careful what we give to whom in our zest to help. Not everyone can afford to be sending checks out for various causes, and I think the information is there and whoever feels compelled to do so, can do so. Others can give their moral support, and that's worth a lot, in my book. We're all here for the same reasons, aren't we? [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 45. "Gosh" Posted by momo on 16:09:50 4/02/2001 You'd think this was some sort of ST Fan Club or something. No one is going to be taking names at the door and wondering whether or not you've donated. I don't even care to know who gave and how much. Get over it! [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 46. "ST fan club?" Posted by Edie Pratt on 16:23:41 4/02/2001 are you the president Momo? I think you are, and the secretary, too:-) So, when do I get my membership and complimentary tool belt? Tho I'm not "down" with his theory, doesn't mean I don't like him. However, I haven't enough money to send Chris, much less Stevereno, I'm sorry to say. But good feelings and best wishes are just as valuable, no? I got plenty of that:-) [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 49. "Re #18, Sabrina" Posted by Chatter on 16:49:33 4/02/2001 Any idea what person ST had to block im's and emails from? I don't remember hearing that. Thanks. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 47. "Edie Pratt" Posted by Tricia on 16:36:30 4/02/2001 Your good wishes are worth their weight in GOLD! Edie all you ever have to do is post your thoughts and zingers. That is the best contribution! Ev back when the O.J. civil trial was on I didn't have any idea how to get in touch with the Goldmans or anyone for that matter. Thanks to the internet we can now rally from all over the world at a moments notice for causes we believe in . Ev I have the same feelings about my soon to be mailed contribution that you did about yours. It is going to be the best investment yet. Tricia [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 48. "Thank you, Tricia!" Posted by Edie Pratt on 16:46:55 4/02/2001 That was so nice, you made my day:-) I WISH my big yap brought home the bacon, nevermind gold! If I got paid for blabbing, I'd be rich rich rich. Why,I'd buy everyone here a year's supply of Eskimo Pies, that's what. Thanks:-) [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 51. "Edie...why, you're worth your weight..." Posted by Dunvegan on 17:10:42 4/02/2001 ...in Klondike gold! Actually, I like Dove Bars best... [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 52. "what would ya do for a Klondike Bar?" Posted by Edie Pratt on 17:19:41 4/02/2001 thanks, too, Dunvegan:-) However, nothing I say would pay enough to afford Doves. I keep eyeing the new Godiva ice cream, but can't justify paying $8 a scoop. Unbelievable! Loving your graphics today, too, Dun. You are making me look crazy in the eyes of my dogbaby, he can't figure out why I'm cackling all alone, lol. Oh well, I can't figure out why he barks at the wall sometimes, either...you really are in the wrong business, girl. And you don't even have to hire me to believe that:-) [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 57. "Edie" Posted by JR on 20:21:54 4/02/2001 Glad I don't sit alone - LOL! I have found out just how much I giggle because this darn bird mimics me. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 50. The point that pokes me in the eye is the double standard ... i.e. what's verboten for some is fine for others. That's all. End of comment. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 53. "mary" Posted by v_p on 18:00:34 4/02/2001 >>but I think there are inherent problems with *a* poster (no one in particular, just in general) collecting money which may not end up where the donating parties intended.<<< What did I miss? Which poster are you talking about ... I realize you said no one in particular, but I'm sure you have someone in mind. It must be awful to be bitter 24/7. I didn't start this thread asking, much less "begging" for money for Steve Thomas. I gave you information and you may do with it what you will. Because of Steve, this may finally see the inside of a court room and justice just might prevail. If you don't want to contribute, fine, I won't lose a damned bit of sleep over it ... I'll just do what I feel is right for me. Gem ... we get it already. Why do you keep opening this thread if it offends you so much? Attention? [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 54. "Yep v_p" Posted by Gemini on 18:09:04 4/02/2001 The thread needs attention fer shure. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 55. "Attention, please.." Posted by Greenleaf on 19:50:35 4/02/2001 I don't mean to be breaking forum rules, but I think we should all pitch in and send money to Gemini for charm school. GL [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 56. "email" Posted by v_p on 20:05:48 4/02/2001 If you will send me your email addy, I will send you information. I cannot say exactly what kind of information because I wouldn't want to break any rules. Thank you ;) [ EMAIL v_p ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 58. "GL" Posted by Gemini on 23:52:17 4/02/2001 Charm school, eh? Next you'll be wanting to enter me in the pageant circuit. You could spend and spend and spend ... but GEM says what she thinks and thinks pretty good. : ) You know you wouldn't change a thing. Think of it ... nobody to cause you to blow fire out your tush. What kind of world would that be? Didn't we used to have a "charmer"? And, wasn't (s)he just? No thanks ... given the choice, I'd rather be honest. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 59. "I had to come out of lurk mode for this!" Posted by Ribaldone on 10:22:15 4/03/2001 I am so thrilled to hear that Steve hired Daniel Petrocelli! He would have been my first choice. I just mailed a check for $50 and hope to send more later. As far as I'm concerned, it's a good investment! I can't think of a better way to spend my money than to try and nail two babykillers. Hi everyone. It's been a while -- hope you are all doing well. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 60. "ST Fund" Posted by JR on 14:08:08 4/03/2001 Well with $0 income at the moment my donation will be a pitance but I am emailing the address to friends and family - maybe they can make up the difference. [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 61. "JR" Posted by Tricia on 19:57:27 4/03/2001 That would be a wonderful thing to do. Getting the word out is as good as writing a check in mho. Thank you JR Tricia [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 63. "I say to be fair" Posted by RiverRat on 20:27:07 4/03/2001 we let Gem start a fundraising thread for the party of her choice. Me, I'll go for $118 dollars for Mr. Thomas and continue when I can all through this legal process, it could reach the ranson total. If only it could return her...... [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 62.
