I believe it can be tapped via an outside pole. You could also use it to your advantage by pretending you don't know about the tap, and then you could release any information you want them to hear via a normal phone conversation with a friend. And who knows,.......you might get to call long distance for free during the time period it is tapped,.....sort of a nice exchange. I do hope you will take action, demand to know if someone in authority is doing this, if not, then the fed's should be able to find the person responsible for this illegal action, and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 16. "Mame" Posted by Brightlight on 03:24:29 4/26/2000 In the 50's 10% of all U.S. citizens phones were tapped by various USG agencies. That percentage has increased exponentially over the decades. Phone bugs are obsolete as satellite eavesdropping provides a level of sophistication where private citizens have no way of knowing their phones are tapped. Same with email and faxes. As in yours and mine. ONE of the most recently revealed methods of USG eavedropping is code named Echelon, involving every form of communication, not only between world governments but also private citizens. Read the article regarding Echelon titled "Party Line," written 1/4/98, at: http://civilliberty.tqn.com/newsissues/civilliberty/library/weekly/aa010498.htm Excerpt from article: << "(The National Security agency is the eavesdropper of choice in the U.S., and the 800-pound gorilla of the whole operation.) As e-mail, faxes, telex messages, radio broadcasts and, yes, phone messages are intercepted, they are searched according to the keyword lists, and any matching messages are then sent on to the various intelligence headquarters for closer examination. Mind you, this isn't just military traffic and embassy gossip being poked through by the spooks' computers; it's your phone calls to your parents, your nasty e-mails about the tax man and your "confidential" internal company memos. Everything that the trenchcoat brigade can intercept goes through the grinder." >> This article even talks about love letters being intercepted. ANY communication. Satellites target keywords. If JR is desperate enough to want to know the goings-on of MW he most certainly has the right connections. In that case MW's name would become a keyword targeted in any phone conversations, emails or faxes and picked up via surveillance. Piece of cake. Don't discount JR's long term ties to the intelligence community from his own intel clearance in the military to Lockheed. His connections to the intelligence world involve some mighty powerful players behind the scenes on the R's side. HH is involved up to his eyeballs and the list goes right on up to the DOD, DIA and other alphabet soup agencies. Hot buttons are being pushed when intimidation is directed at private citizens. Players at their level don't play nice. It could get A LOT worse. Most assuredly if MW is a threat to the murderers. Lee Hill could explain this clandestine world to you in detail from personal experience. From simple intimidation to your worst nightmare. On a lighter note, if you wanta throw the big boys off track the next time you discuss MW on the phone just refer to her with a code name...like Kilo. That oughta knock 'em for a loop. Of course, 'they' may be reading this so I'll bid them goodnight...especially you, Lake. Looks like the discussion regarding MW got you assigned to JW again. Well, at least you're the Lake that can spell. Whatever happened to the illiterate one? "Househazard" Posted by socks on 17:26:18 4/26/2000 If you have a 900 watt cordless phone, anyone with a scanner can set in their car outside your home, and listen to your phone conversation. They can set down the street and listen. I have heard my neighbor on my phone. I mean my phone (cordless) would ring, I would answer, ( I do not have the old fashion party line) they could not hear me, but I could hear her whole conversation. It was strange. This happened for about a month, everytime she got a call, my phone would ring. MAME: Can you hear anything that sounds like wheels turning in the background? Like on the old fashion movie projector's, except quieter? That is a sign you are being tapped. Also, they do not have to come into you home to tap your phone, they usually rent a house within in a mile or so from you, tap into the phone line that goes to your house. If the authorities are doing it, there has to be a state trooper on duty to monitor the conversation at all times. (in this state) They call it oral interception or oral interdicting. The best safeguard is to not say anything "important" over the wires. Tapping lines is more common than the public thinks. The authorities may also be "shadowing" your computer. Tread lightly, Mame. There can be tiny cameras the size of a pin head within the screen of your computer. You might want to research "electronic surveillance". One last thought, Lockheed Martin does have the surveillance capabilities and I am sure there are folks within that organization with the expertise to help someone spy without going through the legal chain of command. One housewife was put on their terrorist list after she wrote an email to a friend saying her son's high school play had "bombed". "Bomb" is one of the hot words on their list. " Mame-" Posted by sarah on 07:58:08 4/26/2000 If your phone has been tapped, it is not a joking matter. Remember, you live in Boulder. Jot down some random thoughts on a pad of paper. Call the BPD and tell them your phone is tapped. Ask them to send help because you have a note. Call all your friends and ask them to come over - they'll have plenty of time because the police won't be able to find your house... Meanwhile, paste a piece of black tape over the speaker part of your phone. Don't worry if it falls off the speaker when the police pick up the handle to investigate. The important thing is that the tape is there and the authorities see it... Be sure to knock a baseball-sized hole in your window. If the police happen to find it during their 3rd or 4th search through your house, don't risk your integrity by lying about it. Tell them there's no evidence of a break-in. Don't worry, you can always change your story later.. The important thing to remember is , never go out without your make-up on; you must always be well dressed for any occasion - even if you are in your own home and it is 6 a.m.... May I suggest black on black with a pair of natty hi-tec boots... Throw a few styrofoam packing-peanuts on your lawn. From what I hear, some investigators are mesmerized by them... Pull the other detective over to the side, hand him a role of film, and whisper in his ear that you think it was "an inside job". (It is very easy to set up) Several years ago during my first marriage, I suspected that my husband was cheating on me, so I purchased this particular device and attached it to a jack in the childrens room (so as not to be noticable). Look at the controversy over her credibility her story raised just on this forum...it's a microcosm of American society, and she will surely get more of the same if she tries to ensure her safety by becoming a public figure. Up till now, she has insisted on not talking to the tabs or the national media, and that has helped her to aviod accusations of trying to make a buck or gain notoriety by associating herself with the Ramsey investigation. If she was to come out and get publicity, all the savage hurtful things about her making this up for 15 minutes of fame would be thrown at her and some of it would stick. So, I hope she can stay in the shadows, and stay safe. Shame on the FBI for not putting her in a safe place where she is protected from harm, and can recharge her spirit for the long road ahead. I hope if they do offer her a safe house setting, it's not a tacky motel room with no phone, no friends and no communication with the world, just an armed agent outside her door. That's hardly better than being in a prison, and would crush a fragile spirit very quickly. My thoughts and prayers are with you, mame and MW. That is what they can scan. I had a scumbag scanning my cordless phone with a police scanner. This was just a person I knew from a hobby club. He lived about a mile-and-a-half away. A second acquaintance, who was the actual enemy of mine who started this crap, would always call a 3rd party friend of mine about 5 minutes after he and I would hang up from our late night phone conversations. That was the only time she ever called him. He and I used to laugh about it, then it happened over and over. So we finally made up some lies and discussed them. Sure enough, within a few days, this girl was repeating it. Then we knew, but we didn't know how she was doing it. So I called the phone company and they said anyone could use a police scanner radio (not expensive) to eavesdrop within a 3-mile radius. That's when I figured out it was the bad guy (who lived near me) that was in cahoots with her. The worst part is that there is nothing they can do about it--it is legal. So is eavesdropping on cell phone calls. That was settled in courts years ago--they can do it and you can't stop them. I went back to using my regular wall-jack phone when all this happened 5 years ago and now I won't go back to the cordless or cell unless it's an emergency. Nothing to hide, just don't want the hassle. Also, my house fronts on a busy street and my computer speakers pick up some of the cell phone calls in the cars going by, just for a few hundred yards each way, coming and going (must just be certain frequencies, because it is not constant). Hence, I know how easily this can be done. The worst is when police cars are running past in the middle of the night--their radios are much louder than cell phones and their police talk blares throughout my house. I always think they're coming thru the front door. Use pay phones from now on, if it concerns this case. It's an inconvenience, but save up your conversation just for certain times. Go to the library or an internet café to get online. Now you know why FW does that. I stayed off the 'Net for 5 years because these same people threatened to "melt" or "fry" my HD--and evidently, the "bad guy" is a world class hacker. Also watch out for your checking account and what you do with your ATM card. Same people got access to my bank stuff and played havoc with it. (We are all in our late 40's, early 50's, mind you!) Even now, I'm still paranoid, but I only do 'Net stuff on this PC and keep all my real work on my older PC that I had packaged without a modem in it--so no outside interference. Anything you have on your hard drive, get backed up immediately to tape or disks and double them. Take a disk with you if you go online somewhere else. I'm not kidding about this stuff. My little enemies were peanuts compared to what you may be dealing with here. And guess what, I've been cut off three--make that 5-- times just trying to post about this--only time today out of 5-6 hours online. Keep a written record of everything--everything--weird that happens from now on. You might need this, ms reporter! Oh, also, if you start getting a lot of hang-up phone calls that don't show up on Caller ID, do NOT *69 back or dial back. The people record YOU calling them and keep the record of it on their machine or pager. (Learned this one from a lady cop about a different stalking experience that is ongoing in my life.) Best of luck to you. I wasn't interested in listening in on anyone I knew, but I heard the sweetest conversation from a daddy talking to his little daughter whose soccer team had just lost a game and the mother was concerned that she was moping around. How darling that was! Another time, I heard a "john" and what I would call a "call girl" ~ he called and was telling her just what to wear, perfume, makeup, etc. THAT was really something! It's usually a voice activated recorder directly clipped onto your phone line. It can be attached miles from your house on a telephone pole or a phone company maintenance building. When your line goes active, the recorder turns on. There is no sound, voices, or "clicking" noise heard on your phone line. Second, the easiest way to tap someone is to listen in on their portable phone as janphi suggests. There are 2 types of portable phones. The older models work around 49 mhz. and can be picked up on an inexpensive scanner from any Radio Shack. The newer models work in the 900 mhz range and require a more expensive 800 mhz scanner that has been modified to pick them up. Mame, if either you or Holly were on a portable phone, in all probability what you heard was someone in your neighborhood pick up THEIR portable phone that happened to be set on the same channel at the time. That's why portable phones have a channel button since their are only so-many channels available. I constantly pick up my portable and hear my neighbors talking. For some reason their kids insist on playing with the channel button instead of leaving their phone on a channel nobody else normally uses. What people don't realize about portable phones, is that the range is limited by the handset. The actual base portion of the phone emits signals strong enough that you can listen to a person's conversation at least a block away from their house. Never give out personal information or credit card numbers over ANY portable phone. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 51. "Watch my lips" Posted by Brightlight on 18:23:45 4/26/2000 o There is NO WAY TO KNOW if phone lines or other electronic communications are being monitored with resources available to JR's connections. These high powered players wouldn't stoop to bugs or taps when they have the most advanced technological surveillance available at their fingertips. o Eavesdropping involves ALL means of communication. All telephones, cell phones, portable phones, pay phones, wireless equipment, email and faxes. None are exempt. o To believe that such activity requires legal process is naive, as is believing it's a crime to intimidate or harass. You're talking about a level that is ABOVE the law. Welcome to reality. o Forget law enforcement, including the FBI. Surveillance of this nature is conducted by those who operate outside either. Even elected officials, as well as the oval office, are helpless against those with real power. Try CIA, NSA, ISA, DOD or DIA and you're playing with the players...who are playing with you whether you know it or not. All intel operates hand in hand with any of these agencies whether military intelligence or government defense contractors such as Lockheed. JR was involved with both. o Encryption offers NO protection for this type of electronic surveillance. The real players involved have technology advanced to the degree that the general public has no idea what they're up against or how to protect themselves from it. Any protection we have is obsolete in their world. o Phone monitoring is not life threatening. It is SOP for simple intimidation tactics. Having an unmarked helicopter hovering just inches above your roof at 2:00 AM is a little more serious form of intimidation but still not life threatening. Life threatening are calls from unidentified voices in possession of details of your activities telling you that you 'will be murdered' if you don't back off. Or being shot in the back of the head four times while local authorities, under the guise of law, declare it suicide, refuse an autopsy and immediately have the body cremated AGAINST, AND IN SPITE OF, the wishes of the family. All because someone tried to make a positive difference in righting the wrongs and hit up against this powerful, evil force. Try going to your local law enforcement or the FBI for that. Good luck. We're talking clandestine operations for which there is NO accountability to any agency. Not on the local or federal level. Wake up people, these operations are ROUTINE and have been going on for years with the American public. And there's not one damn thing you can do about it as many others have proved long before now. ANY individudal or group who unwittingly steps on the toes of these powerful entities is a potential target for abuse. JR is surrounded by those at this level. Whether or not they're supporting him may be another story. MW may, or MAY NOT, be the concern. IF JR is getting this powerful support it could be nothing more than tracking those who insist on keeping this issue alive and in the public eye. JW would hardly be the first group subjected to, and possibly infiltrated by, covert surveillance. If anyone here is being electronically monitored then it's more than likely that others on JW have also been targeted, as well as this forum in general. If true, then this is hardly the time to withdraw for such actions indicate that people here are getting close to the truth. That's exactly what you've been seeking. Take a stand. Don't LET them win. And stop expecting them to come up to your level. You have to roll in the mud and get dirty. You can't fight a tiger with a dish rag. But this inane speculation needs to cease. Instead arm yourselves with knowledge of the enemy's weapons. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 78. "Brightlight--did you see this?" Posted by LurkerXIV on 13:17:01 4/30/2000 It won't be long before our gov't. does the same... April 30 2000 BRITAIN MI5 builds new centre to read e-mails on the net Nicholas Rufford MI5 is building a new £25m e-mail surveillance centre that will have the power to monitor all e-mails and internet messages sent and received in Britain. The government is to require internet service providers, such as Freeserve and AOL, to have "hardwire" links to the new computer facility so that messages can be traced across the internet. The security service and the police will still need Home Office permission to search for e-mails and internet traffic, but they can apply for general warrants that would enable them to intercept communications for a company or an organisation. The new computer centre, codenamed GTAC - government technical assistance centre - which will be up and running by the end of the year inside MI5's London headquarters, has provoked concern among civil liberties groups. "With this facility, the government can track every website that a person visits, without a warrant, giving rise to a culture of suspicion by association," said Caspar Bowden, director of the Foundation for Information Policy Research. The government already has powers to tap phone lines linking computers, but the growth of the internet has made it impossible to read all material. By requiring service providers to install cables that will download material to MI5, the government will have the technical capability to read everything that passes over the internet. Home Office officials say the centre is needed to tackle the use of the internet and mobile phone networks by terrorists and international crime gangs.Charles Clark, the minister in charge of the spy centre project, said it would allow police to keep pace with technology. "Hardly anyone was using the internet or mobile phones 15 years ago," a Home Office source said. "Now criminals can communicate with each other by a huge array of devices and channels and can encrypt their messages, putting them beyond the reach of conventional eavesdropping." There has been an explosion in the use of the internet for crime in Britain and across the world, leading to fears in western intelligence agencies that they will soon be left behind as criminals abandon the telephone and resort to encrypted e-mails to run drug rings and illegal prostitution and immigration rackets. The new spy centre will decode messages that have been encrypted. Under new powers due to come into force this summer, police will be able to require individuals and companies to hand over computer "keys", special codes that unlock scrambled messages. There is controversy over how the costs of intercepting internet traffic should be shared between government and industry. Experts estimate that the cost to Britain's 400 service providers will be £30m in the first year. Internet companies say that this is too expensive, especially as many are making losses. About 15m people in Britain have internet access. Legal experts have warned that many are unguarded in the messages they send or the material they download, believing that they are safe from prying eyes. "The arrival of this spy centre means that Big Brother is finally here," said Norman Baker, Liberal Democrat MP for Lewes. "The balance between the state and individual privacy has swung too far in favour of the state." [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 66. "scanners" Posted by pat on 18:57:41 4/26/2000 we had a scanner and at times it picked up incredible cell phone calls,,,one was from a high profile guy being investigated in congressional hearings talking to his secretary. Another was a guy talking to his sweetie while wife was gone,,usually it was a hoot. My son in law who is a computer guru tells me anyone can hack into your computer and spy on you with available software one of which is called Back Door. We realy have very little privacy. I can't understand why mame would be tapped,,,people know who mw is,,they wouldn't be looking for that. So what are they interested in,,maybe where MW is? "Ron S" Posted by IndyAnna on 20:10:10 4/26/2000 I appreciate your reluctance to believe all the innuendos and rumors that are thrown out in JW with regard to MW. I, too, am in need of more substantial proof that FW and/or the Ramseys are involved in a sex ring and it somehow relates to JBR's death. The mere fact that MW was sexually abused and has mentioned the JBR murder case is not enough for me to take that leap at this time. However, your statement that MW may be "promiscuous" is worse than any speculation thrown out yet by the members of JW. I find it revolting for two reasons. First, I had hoped that someone in your line of work would be more sensitive towards someone who is in need of care (it is not necessary to believe her complete story to know that whether she is telling the truth or not, she needs assistance). Secondly, as a survivor of child sexual abuse, my greatest fear in "coming out" with my stories of abuse (several molestations/different men before age 13/rape at age 13), is that uneducated individuals would somehow think that I enabled the abuse and maybe, even label me as "promiscuous." After many years of therapists claiming over and over that I was the victim and I did nothing wrong, one of their "educated" own (yes, you, Ron) without any factual basis, declares that MW may be "promiscuous." So, Ron, while you are dissing the JW for throwing out speculations right and left with regard to MW's statements, you have done an even greater diservice to MW and other victims/survivors of child sexual abuse. Other JWs, I apologize for the lengthy reply. I usually limit myself to the limericks. One thing I have learned is that you test the water before you jump in. After wading for 1.5 years, I guess I just did a backward flip! [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 72. "It does happen" Posted by Starling on 20:52:51 4/26/2000 And yes, you can hear it. Click. Click. Click. At first I was thinking, maybe some sort of sting was ongoing, since there were threats made to MW, but after hearing how your outside box was left in disarray that option is out of the question. mame, please keep your house lit up on the outside. Report any street lights that aren't working. Keed sadie and the kids close. Get some mace and keep smiling :-) Star [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 70.
