"EVIDENCE 1: The garotte was made in the basement" Posted by Ginja on 14:17:42 5/05/2001 Jellyjaws started a thread based on a RMN in-depth article pointing to all the different evidence brought out by Lou Smit. JJ then listed a number of items of interest for discussion. Another poster thought splitting each of those points into separate threads was a good idea. So here's the first thread on the first point. This thread's topic is based on a Smit's point that the garotte was made in the basement. Makes no difference to which theory you subscribe, this is the thread to discuss how this point goes with your theory or simply how you feel about the point itself. "The garotte was fabricated in the basement" Posted by Ginja on 14:21:41 5/05/2001 There have been discussions about this long before today's article (or Smit's Today presentation). We knew the paintstick was taken from Patsy's art supplies at the base of the stairs. The stick was broken outside the door of the wine cellar as there are bits of the broken wood on the floor. We theorized that because the hair was so caught up in the garotte that it was most probably fabricated "on" the body. I never did think the perp would run downstairs, grab the paintbrush, run down the hall, break it, run back to the art box and throw in a piece, run back upstairs and put it on JBR. I've also posted that because the ligature was so evenly distributed around the neck that she had to be unconscious. The green garland in her hair indicated she was carried unconscious "down" the stairs. Basically I've always felt she was carried down to the basement, set down on the floor, the stick grabbed from the box, broken next to the body, fabricated into a garotte, placed around her throat, tightened, and then the body carried into the wine cellar and laid out and the staging continued (duct tape, hands bound, blanket, etc.) I even posted I thought she had been rolled over onto her stomach when the garotte was applied - this to explain how the residual release of urine stained the front of her clothes. Now I see in the another point made by Smit that JonBenet had a fiber from the carpet outside the door. Makes perfect sense to me! Personally, I think this points to Ramsey guilt more than an intruder. I'll make the comparison in another post. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 2. "Ginja" Posted by Jellyjaws on 14:45:03 5/05/2001 It's so good that you're breaking this down for further discussion. This might be the most obvious, That the garrote was made in the basement, but I plucked it out of the article because I noted the positive assertion, "There is evidence..." For me "the paint tote" was a canvas bag or something but it's that tray just outside the door. One of the pictures shows the broken piece (the brush end?) returned. Neat frenzy, huh? Never have been able to figure out all the loop and leashes. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 3. "Again" Posted by freebird on 15:14:07 5/05/2001 I can't see an intruder who is into this kind of sex, who fantasized about JB to the point he had to have her and risked it all by entering her 'safe home, while her parents were there, yet he didn't bring the ONE important toy that he gets his jollys with (the garrotte)? Why take a chance that what he needed would be in her home and available to him? [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 4. "JJ" Posted by Ginja on 15:14:56 5/05/2001 One thing the pictures provided was visual 'verification' of exactly what the evidence is. You're right...from the very beginning of this crime, we'd been told the art supplies were in a "tote". This opens up some interesting ideas for discussion. For example, an intruder wouldn't "have" to know to look inside a tote bag for a weapon. But with a box like this, it easily could have been recognized as something that might hold something 'useful'. It could even have been mistaken as a took box if the cover was on it securely. But it also brings up the possibility that the duct tape and cord were stored in it as well, seeing as how the brown cotton fibers were on everything connecting the garotte and duct tape to the body! Perhaps the cord wasn't on or in a roll. Perhaps it was just a long piece of cord rolled up inside the box. Likewise, the tape could have been stuck to the inside of the lid or on a package or something inside the box, explaining how the fibers might have gotten on it. Pretty interesting to see how this additional evidence doesn't sew up any theory. It still can go either way. As regards the knots and loops of the cord, I'm not sure I buy into the "intricate" knot. This was flat cord so the looping shows up more visually than if it had been something more tubular and narrow. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ]
