"Justice Watch Mission?" Posted by Jellyjaws on 17:43:14 5/23/2000 Good evening, good people. After holing up in my bedroom with a space heater and three cats during a bone chilling rain and wind spell, I wanted only the hottest of baths and a pot of soup to bring me back. Was out today to get Steve's book. I read first 30 pages and am disgusted, more than discusted, enraged. It's so obvious to me that this is a lost investigation. What bothers me most is that there is no accountability for the malfeasance of government employees, particularly Eller, Koby, and Hunter and probably many others. My question is that why not in Colorado, as in many other states, is there not an oversight committee built into their system? A young child died and the investigation was botched by an incompetent, entrenched system. The public and media raised, and continue to raise, very pertinent issues. We get NO ANSWERS? OUTRAGEOUS! An honest, accountable state government should have all this built into it's investigative process, without question. When Boulder's investigation was questioned in this most serious case, Koby, Eller and Hunter should have been asked, if not told, to step aside. Or, to cooperate with a top-notch state team. When Owens came to office, he should have looked into programs of other states (many very effective) or established his own to ensure effective goverment oversight. Honest government will let the chips fall where they may. Now, Owens is suspect or should be by clear thinking people. Minimally, he looks to be ineffectual. Frankly, I think we need to take another look at how long we'll be satisfied in loving and supporting each other (God knows this forum is strong in that dept.) without taking some action against incompetence in government. Chris, with her competence and time (no small thing), created a forum. Good and very intellegent folks formed a community, only to be frustrated by God knows what. Let's regroup and see where our strength lies. I'm not satisfied with loving you, though God know's I do. I'd like to influence the Colorado state governing bodies. So let me get off my high horse and take a break. It would be unproductive for any snotty, big shot sorority sister to claim I haven't paid my dues; I have. I am not willing to let these rascals retire with intact government pensions, are you!? [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 1. "Oversight - Elections" Posted by CommonSense on 17:54:38 5/23/2000 I hate to say it but the biggest and best oversight committee in boulder didn't give a rat's rear about what Hunter and his team were doing. He was elected year after year . . . And, my guess is, Boulder will turn right around and vote in one of his buddies. I have just about given up hope. I won't watch the "press conference" and I will always know what they did. I hope that others will continue to give them the O.J. treatment - it may be the only way to feel any justice in this case for such an innocent little angel. That press conference just makes me ill. Boulder - you people are sorry excuses for "the public" [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 4. "Common Sense" Posted by Sioux on 18:09:57 5/23/2000 I had an idea reading your post: How about making t-shirts to wear all over the country trashing BOULDER AND ITS SYSTEM? Of course it's not fair for mame , but she is THE ONLY ONE in that place who is not corrupt. I mean C'mon, if you have such a lousy DA for 28 years something is wrong with your THINKING. I would say : Let's put the presure on the city, so THEY react and start questionning what is going on with their authorities, because I rememeber reading that Boulderites "are tired of JonBenet". ?????????? I've thought about this too, and I'm sure many others. My question is : How to start? because unless we choose AN OBJECTIVE, we can't jump to a plan of action of any sort. I propose to START with stickers , T-shirts and marches. I remember a while ago someone was proposing stickers . I don't know if that is considered lame . You tell me.But causes like Mandela's had stickers and T shirts for instance although I have no clue those actually helped "the cause".I carry one in my car for the "NO TV WEEK" and was very surprised the amount of people that honk with thums up when they read the sticker, if I'm at a red light . I say: Let's MOVE. Sioux [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 5. "Hang in there..." Posted by Jellyjaws on 20:14:43 5/23/2000 I am licking the bowl of HOT, tummy warming soup and bread, and am checking back to my new thread on "Justice Watch." My kitties are playing with Maedi Gra beads and we are settling in for warmth of the space heater and blankets. It's been freezing! Anyone who knows me, knows I answer every response. Ah, "reporter," we are on the same wave length. I can tell. Man, do we think alike! Hang in there, baby, and gather the troops. I'll be back! Dearest "Common Sense," you are probably right. To say that the "electorate" is the final answer is so true, so "common sense." I love your posts and read them all with respect. Damn, I just don't agree. Excuse me. lovey, while I bang my head against the wall. There's got to be more! You've got a good brain. Think! Sioux, I love it! Dammit, take to the streets! I've had it, I really have. I think it was "IMBACKONLINE" that did me in. Lordy, Sioux, we need you so much. "T-shirts," marches, posters, letters, etc." Who was it that said, "Throw the b******s out"? HAHAHAHAHA, I just love your style and enthusiasm. With you, me and "Laurel and Hardy," we can't lose. Dammit, let's all think. Aw, Sioux, I love you to death! So, "reporter" and "Common Sense," we gotta think while Sioux carries us along. Tomorrow is another day. I'm just outraged and have plenty of ideas. Each state has had horror stories. Get my drift? "Jellyjaws, this will sound " Posted by fiddler on 23:32:11 5/23/2000 cynical, but I don't mean it that way. I've had experience with both the civil and criminal systems, and I'm speaking only from experience. What happened in Boulder is NOT anything unusual. What happened there, happens time after time, everywhere. The only unusual thing about this particular case is that it's gotten so much media attention that the average citizen has the opportunity to REALIZE what actually goes on. This is when someone usually says, "But our justice system is the best in the world, etc. etc.", as if criticizing any part of the system means you are some kind of stupid ingrate. Love it or leave it. Well, I think not. I think some parts of our system are fantastic--a six-or-twelve person jury of randomly picked citizens is one of the best ideas anyone ever had in all of history, IMO. Some parts, however, reek. And I don't know what we can do about it. Is the level of fairness we aspire to--and should aspire to--attainable in the real world of politics and budget constraints? If it isn't, should we just shrug our shoulders and give up, accept the status quo? Or should we try to formulate some kind of "bottom line, bare bones" justice that everyone in the community could expect--sort of like the "bottom line" national health services that countries like Canada and most of Europe provide? We need to ask a lot of questions before we start formulating answers. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 7. "fiddler..." Posted by Jellyjaws on 06:11:55 5/24/2000 Thank you for your thoughtful and intelligent post. If you are cynical, I guess it's a case of "join the crowd." You are right re "system" being so excellent in so many ways. I served on juries twice (one criminal; one civil) and was really awe-struck at how well it worked. Forgive me when the spit goes fling out of my mouth. I'm just starting our Steve's book and it's making me crazy! More, much more should have been done in the Ramsey case. Governor Owens dropped the ball when he failed to appoint a special prosecutor. Call me crazy, but I don't think it's too late. Those SOB's are on the government dole and should be held accountable. I'd love to get my hands on the raw data from 12/26 on i.e. logs, statements, photographs etc. If you've been thorough, the pieces fall into place. Voila! Maybe you can't prove it, but you'll darn sure know what happened. Where's the OUTRAGE, for crying out loud? Governor Owens is a dud for not taking more aggressive action in such a high profile case. Ah well, business as usual. Thanks, fiddler. And common sense, reporter and Sioux. We're all of like minds. Much as I love checking in on the "dailies" and exchanging recipes, and I do, there should be more. This forum is so full of intelligent, sharp people. We could really exert pressure, if mobilized. The only "cause celebre" relevant now sems to be a special prosecutor. You'd think Owens would want to take corrective action. HOO BOY!, must take my vitamins so I'll have the strength for Steve's book. Lots of banging my head against the wall. Thank you, fiddler. You're one of the best and brightest. Love, Jelly! "fiddler" Posted by Sioux on 09:38:15 5/24/2000 you are so very right, your post was excellent.I agree that no system is perfect, and that this case is not the only one, it just got more press, BUT the good news is that BECAUSE of that, it acts like a reminder that WE can and we SHOULD do something about it and not comform. I think my ideas of "resistance " might not be the best, I'm open to critics and to other ideas, maybe more effective ones. But I WILL NOT conform because "there's nothing we can do". People can do things that change the status quo. The ultimate goal should be to change an injust reality in this case. If that goal is not achieved,at least we will have spoken out and TRIED. We should TRY, no matter what!! SFF V I C T O R Y !!! [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 8. "Jellyjaws" Posted by Sioux on 09:28:40 5/24/2000 **Sioux, I love it! Dammit, take to the streets!** Just tell me what to do and I'll do it. **With you, me and "Laurel and Hardy," we can't lose.** He he he he. You are right, although I request the Marx Brothers to be included in this "faction". Hey, we could sign "The small foreign faction". I'm thinking in T-shirts like : "Boulder" in big red letters and the picture of a skull in the back. Or:"Boulder" in smaller letters like in the center , and on top "Perfect Murder", and under Boulder "Imperfect Town" .Or how about a picture of the Rams themselves with a sign "The Scumseys"? Or a picture of Alex with : "FREE BOULDER OF IDIOCY". Or "Visit Boulder, Murder Town". Oh my head spins. So, who is gonna be in charge of actaully making them? We could start with small orders just for us "The Cultists" and see how it goes. Any volunteers? I have my checkbook right here with me . Posted by LurkerXIV on 10:46:28 5/24/2000 After 3 1/2 yrs of this charade put on by the officials of Boulder County and City, I, too, am disgusted by all the malfeasance in office. Voting in a decent DA should be the first order of business. Since I am not a resident, and can't vote there, the next best thing I can do is vow NEVER to spend one cent of my tourist dollars in Boulder. That doesn't make much of an impression on the BoCo granola-brains, I'm sure, but it gives me some satisfaction. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ]
