      I sent Ben Thompson a small donation. I just received the following letter
      today plus a bumper sticker. It was personally signed "thanks ____(my
      name), Ben

      Dear _____,
      On May 30, 2000, I will turn in over 1,600 signatures to the State Election
      Board. I have verified over 1,000 of these signatures. Thus, I will be on the
      Democratic Primary ballot. This is due in considerable part to your early
      financial support which enabled me to fund marketing materials and
      campaign start-up expenses. I thank you. Now, I need your financial help
      more than ever.

      I have gone from being largely unknown to being a strong and viable
      contender in the District Attorny race. However, there are three of us in the
      primary race. Both my opponents are insiders in the District Attorney's
      office. Both have more money at this point that I do. In order to compete
      effectively I must raise funds quickly. With only two months until the August
      8 primary, I need to be competitive in getting the word out about who I am
      and why I am the best choice for District Attorney.

      During the many hours I have collected signatures, I have learned that most
      people were not familiar with me or with the other candidates. If I can raise
      money so I can communicate via letter,radio and advertising, my message
      of change, which appealed to petition signers, will appeal to other voters as
      well. Money to pay for letters,envelopes. and stamps for fund raising is our
      most important need.

      This is a critical time in my campaign. We need to raise money in the next
      month or it may be too late. I need your support now. Please give as much
      as you can as soon as you can to a maximum of $1500. Please return
      contributions with the form below in the envelope provided. Please put the
      the enclosed Thompson for D.A. stickers in your rear car window,on your
      bumper, or on your business window or door. Consider being a sponsor for a
      fund raiser or coffee.

      I wish him all the luck in the world, but it will take more than that to convict
      the Ramseys. 

      I wonder if he knows what he's getting into?

      I do think that the other candidates have their own agendas and are
      operating in CYA mode.
