"The National Enquirer (7/25)" Posted by New York Lawyer on 15:27:57 7/13/2000 NOTE: This message was last edited 15:27:57, 7/13/2000 The National Enquirer July 25, 2000 RAMSEYS SNUBBED AT HIGH SCHOOL REUNION By Don Gentile A cool reception greeted Patsy Ramsey at her 25th high school reunion. "Why did she come? No one wants her here," sniffed a former classmate who graduated with Patsy in 1975 from Parkersburg High School in West Virginia. "A lot of us believe she killed her daughter JonBenet." Patsy and her husband John remain under suspicion in JonBenet's December 1996 murder. Despite that, Patsy and her parents arrived in Parkerburg on July 8 in a private plane piloted by her husband. And instead of attending the official reunion get-togethers, Patsy took center stage at a hush-hush invitation-only private reception arranged by a former teacher. Only about 50 of the 200 former classmates, teachers and family members who were invited showed up at the reception. They didn't know the event's location until two days before when they were phoned and told to be at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, which Patsy attended as a child. "You couldn't bring cameras. There were security guards at the doors and the windows were covered with paper so no one could look in," said an insider. "You weren't allowed to talk about JonBenet. "But it was O.K. to bring the Ramseys' book 'The Death of Innocence' for them to sign. It was like the whole thing was a publicity stunt for their book." Pictures of Patsy from her high school days and beauty queen photos from her 1977 reign as Miss West Virginia were prominently displayed in the church reception hall. And Patsy's mom Nedra kept boasting about the book, said a source. "You know it was No. 4 on the best-seller list," she told guests repeatedly. Ironically, a former classmate gave Patsy a print of the fountain in Parkersburg City Park, where the rest of the class of '75 attended a reunion picnic. "We're glad Patsy didn't show up," said one graduate. "She always wanted to be the center of attraction in school and I think she enjoys being infamous now." They're not fooling anyone but themselves and the sooner they realize it, the better off the rest of us will be. But what I really don't get is why in the h*ll did they drag Nedra along? Who takes their mother to their high school reunion? I know I know -- their response would be that Nedra knows everyone. First of all, I seriously doubt that. Secondly, who cares? It's not her reunion. Everything these people do turns against them. They should either give up and go back to the hills from whence they came. Or just confess and get it over with. But I must say, I enjoyed reading this article and I believe every word of it. I can't imagine her old classmates welcoming them with open arms under these circumstances. And then to walk in and see all of Patsy's photos displayed around the room. Gag. I hope everyone had a barf bag handy. I'd love to hear more from Mame about their "serious money problems." "sickening" Posted by Kelly on 15:59:08 7/13/2000 I'm ashamed to say I was raised a Methodist! I now know why I get the creeps when I go to church, the sorriest, meanest people in town were always there when I was growing up,....dressed in their finest of course. What f*(^%%& losers the Ramseys and anyone who had a hand in that "reception" are. I can't believe they put paper on the windows and had security guards. Talk about blasphemy! I'm sorry but that is a terrible, sinful thing to do! How unholy can they get! This is the most disrespectful thing they've done yet. I wish they'd quit using God. It's not that I'm overboard on religion, I do believe, but not from anything I learned as a Methodist growing up. I am a Christian but feel more spiritually blessed and close to God when I observe the paganistic holidays. Maybe it's because those I choose to worship with are more genuine than people like Patsy. I'm not meaning to step on toes of Methodists here, I'm sure there are many good ones. Everone can't possible be as evil as Patsy and her limelight seeking mother. This would have ticked me off no matter what church it occured in. And, what's this about John flying the plane? I thought he had cataracs or something like that and had to have his own pilot. I guess John can do what John wants to do. Rules and safety regulations don't apply to him, obviously. Neither does the law when it pertains to murder! I thought it said on the news that about 90 people were there. I guess that means that out of the 50 that showed up, 40 had significant others. With 6 hostesses and their spouses, the R's family, not too many people were there. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 12. "25% turnout-- LOL!!!" I know to many FAA folks that have private planes (Oshkosh fly-in, 1990, was fun in a piper cub). Their planes are an imense status symbol and they are very particular about them. The ransom letter was also written by an immature person IM"H"O. Hmm, wonder who that could have been? The Methodist church I grew up in would have NEVER condoned such behavior - I'd bet on that! All churches, all Methodists, would not allow their church to become a private haven for the likes of the R's. A reunion is about all the people that graduated with their class, right? If Patsy's pictures were everywhere, were anyone else's? Because if it's just the Patsy Show, then why link it to the reunion? Maybe an ulterior motive? John flys private plane, which I'll bet 25 cents he'll claim they borrowed from a close friend. This covers their new claim of poverty, which covers why they can't go to Boulder versus BPD coming to Atlanta to interview them. Now, I know a few plane tickets ain't much when you're buying vacation digs in Michigan, but there's also hourly lawyer fees, hotel rooms, etc. So their only real estate is a modest home in Michigan, they've liquidated pretty much everything else, they're stalling (as usual) on their nationally televised promises of walking into the BPD to "cooperate." Team Ramsey is pretty much down to Lin Wood. They're flying around in somebody else's plane. Could they be trying to stage a getaway? Are they going to book a plane to go to--say, John's reunion.... OH! I GOT IT! THE PLANE WILL DISAPPEAR! A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT! KENNEDY STYLE! Large insurance policies will pay off double jeopardy to Burke, who finishes high school in a boarding school. Meantime, unbeknownst to all, Wood will be channeling that money as per the Ramsey's will to an offshore account on a small but prestigious island where the rich and powerful go to "get away from it all." Only the Ramseys will be there to "get away with it all." What a fun couple. No one has been more entertaining since O.J. sharpened his knives. We really must write some thinly disguised novels about them. Heck, we could even make them charter members, along with O.J., of the Cayman Islands branch of Murderers Anonymous, a twelve step program where you learn how to control your homicidal tendencies. And speaking of the tabs, it amazes me that no one has reported the latest update in the Craig Lewis persecution in JeffCo. The Colorado Supreme Court has given the Jeffco D.A. 30 days to answer why the case against Lewis and Tom Miller should not be dropped. Their failure to do so will mean all charges will be tossed out. Lewis' attorney pointed out to the high court that in order for a commercial bribery or extortion case to stick, there has to be knowledge of wrongdoing -- and since a lawyer was consulted before any offer to procure the ransom note was made, no laws were broken! Where's Tom Koby and his constitution when it's needed? JeffCo residents should be angry that in a county where the Columbine and "rebirthing death" cases should rightfully be presented to the courts, taxpayer monies are expended on groundless harassment suits. The photo is priceless, Dunvegen. Have any of you ever had friends who went from riches to rags? I've had a couple of them and they don't seem to be able to get it through their heads that they can't afford their former lifestyle. I don't know how they manage it but they still drive expensive cars and live in expensive towns. Meanwhile, they are always complaining about money, or the lack of it thereof. I've also noticed that it takes people a long time to get used to understanding they don't have the assets they once had. When our state had a run-up in real estate prices back in the late 80s and a subsequent real estate market crash, it took people about 10 years to understand their homes had lost all that inflated value. If I live to be a million years old, I'll never understand for sure why Patsy has to "show her behind" in every venue possible. The only answer that makes sense to me is she's so blasted narcissistic, fringe-personality disordered, and just plain crazy sometimes. Look, that's not too far-fetched for me. BUT YOU WOULD THINK WITH ALL HER MONEY AND CONNECTIONS SHE WOULD BE (MUZZLED). I'm frankly a bit surprised by her apparent control over legal questions and appearances. Why? She's certainly not capable of deciding these things. How does she get away with it? Why doesn't someone stop her? Could it be because John is (in some ways) very much like her? I shiver to think so.
