"My Letter from Mark Beckner" Posted by ericasf on 18:19:35 7/26/2000 Dear Erica, Sorry, but I can not answer most of your questions. There may be a day when I can express my perceptions/observations on this case, but not while it is being investigated. I do not believe it would be beneficial to do so. Let me however, warn you against believing everything you read. For example, I can never remember using the expression "morally empty," and certainly do not recall ever referring to anyone in this case in that manner. Thank you for your interest. Mark Beckner >>> "Xxxxxxx, Erica" 07/26/00 11:27AM >>> Dear Mr. Beckner: I'm sure you get bombarded with email regarding the JonBenet Ramsey case and I am not writing to disparage you in any way. What I am writing to you about is just the case in general. I am wondering where things stand and if this case realistically will ever see the inside of a courtroom. What are your feelings on this? What are the feelings inside the BPD regarding this case? How do you feel that your predecessor left the case for you? Have you ever looked into the forum on the internet called Justice Watch? They are a group of people that have spent just as long as you trying to figure this case out. There is a lot of good insights and theories that come out of that group. You may want to just take a look. The address is: http://justicewatch.hispeed.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/justicewatch/jwforum/dcboard.cgi ?az=list&forum=jonbenet Also, what are your feelings in regards to the Mystery Woman and her credibility? I think the biggest question I have is why you called Fleet White "morally empty" when Steve Thomas defends Fleet White and calls him a hero? Thank you for your time. If you would like to reply, I would really enjoy that. Erica Xxxxxxxxxx [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 1. Dear Erica: Thanks for your comments. I do follow Justice Watch. As far as I can tell the lights are off and the door is locked to the war room. Unless there is a miracle confession or I am elected, nothing more will happen. I think the BPD is waiting to see who wins our primary. The "meeting" is all politics. If I win, there will be some action. I've met with the "mystery woman's" lawyer. If I'm selected on August 8, I will meet with her and several witnesses, she has mentioned shortly thereafter. I am fully aware of what she says and do not rule it out. Thanks again. Mark Beckner may have chosen his words very carefully. He said the case is still being investigated. I thought it was a "cold case" according to Dokka Ree. Ben Thompson sounds like he intends to stay on top of the MW angle. Great. Wouldn't it be wonderful if he were elected. Posted by Ginja on 19:07:31 7/26/2000 You go, girlfriend! :-) Not for nuthin', but I think it's fantastic you got responses from Beckner and Thompson. Beckner can't really say much because it is an open investigation. And considering you mentioned JW, I'm sure he knew whatever he said, it'd be posted. He could have ignored it completely, but didn't. I give the guy a lot of credit. Thompson's on the campaign trail, obviously. :-) He's walking the double-edged sword. People shouldn't be able to get away with murder, so the Ramsey fiasco makes sense as a campaign platform. OTOH, I understand it's fundamentally (and constitutionally) wrong to do so. I'm torn with this guy. Because I care so much about this case, I want him to win solely based on the fact he'll prosecute. The other two candidates are wimps & wussies and intent on shelving it. Another problem here is that the people who should care -- the votes -- don't! They're safe and in no danger; the killers have left town. But then again, he's taking on rich parents who have gotten off, and turning it into a political issue. Is that right? If he can snub the Constitution this easily, what else will he do if elected? Guess I need to find out what other issues he's taking with him on this campaign trail. Otherwise, great job, Erica! BTW, didn't someone say there was a press release or something where Beckner talked about "morally empty"? [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 3. "Quote me on this" Posted by ericasf on 18:41:50 7/26/2000 I did not change a single thing in either of the emails except for my information. I do not need my info spread on the net, ya know? Posted by LurkerXIV on 18:50:05 7/26/2000 ...You got it straight from the horse's mouth (Beckner) that he never referred to anyone as "morally empty". Where did that quote first surface? Was it in the Ramsey Mountain News, perchance? [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 5. "Nice job, Erica" Posted by Chris on 18:53:55 7/26/2000 LurkerXIV, that quote is from Steve Thomas' book. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 6. ""morally empty"" Posted by ericasf on 18:54:02 7/26/2000 I don't know where it first surfaced. I remember it was in some newspaper article. I'll have to look that up and get back to you. I'm impressed that you took the time to write Thompson and Beckner. By all accounts, Thompson probably doesn't have a chance, but if he should win, things will get very interesting. "Real Stormy" Posted by darby on 20:14:50 7/26/2000 NOTE: This message was last edited 20:14:50, 7/26/2000 I was just thinking all of the same stuff. Or maybe Beckner just forgot he said it. Or maybe Thomas mis-remembered or paraphrased. Or maybe someone out-and-out lied. At any rate, we know for sure that at this point Beckner doesn't want us to think he said this. Thanks, erica!
