"Oldies (but Goodies) ~ Take Two" Posted by Harmony on 07:43:38 7/31/2000 Hello! Does anyone mind if I start part two of Yung's terrific thread? It is so wonderful to see so many old hats! It's also interesting to see who belonged to what hat! hah hah The first thing I did after we got hooked up to the internet was fall blindly into J-7. I think it was late April or early May when I began posting. And in my own defense, I will say I was using most of my brain power learning to navigate around the www. ;-) I really didn't have that much left over for logic and reason. heh ~ Mel and I were hot on the trail of Santa. We sure took some terrible beatings from Curious. Well, who didn't? Do any of the old J-7ers remember when Pooper-Scooper went shopping? ROFLMAO!!! Besides all the posters Gem and Teague and Tedleg have mentioned, I remember Bookworm and Momof4. I only had one hat until the BNF re-opened and then I changed it to Harmony. For some reason, I was unable to register as Melissa, so I chose the name Harmony. I was hoping the new name would help me remember how to act. It didn't really work...lol There's so much more, but I hear a baby Jack calling me...;-) [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 1. "Great Thread, Yung" Posted by Chris on 08:58:05 7/31/2000 I haven't had time to add my contribution up until now... When I heard about JonBenet's death I remember thinking, "piece of cake, this one will be solved in no time." At the time, I had been in a little skiing accident and simultaneously celebrated my one year wedding anniversary while watching the New Year's Day CNN John and Patsy Show with my leg in a brace. I mostly lurked in alt.true-crime but that crowd was almost too brutal for me. That's where I learned about Mrs. Brady and her page. From there I lurked on the PLA-infested BNF and found Joshua-7. When I first came to Joshua-7, I was =^.^= and then I became catnip ('Nip for short) when the new software wouldn't accept my carets. In the summer of 1998, Joshua-7 was taking a terrible beating. Dan's health wasn't very good and David didn't much appreciate the emails he was getting about a kid he didn't care about (remember that outrageous post he made telling us all he could care less and how p*ssed everyone got at his insensitivity?). Anyway, that was back in the day when BNF was the place to chat. One night, there were several of us in chat when Dan Trevino showed up. He was in a quandry, didn't know whether to keep the forum going, etc. The forum was hosted by a company by the name of tierranet. Several people offered to help offset the costs and I called the host directly to make a "credit card donation" on his behalf. Shortly after that, the troublemakers were really raising h*ll with Dan and he didn't seem to have time to keep on top of it. I talked to a few people and emailed Dan with the idea of setting up an alternative forum. I didn't want to step on his toes and I didn't want to make anyone mad. Quite frankly, if no one was interested, I also didn't want to spend the money needlessly. Interest grew and the situation at J-7 turned worse and worse so I took the plunge and set up Justice Watch. Justice Watch was "officially" born on 08/05/98 (well, that's when the first thread Test Thread Numero Uno was started) and registration began. Hoping for a smooth transition, I went out of town just in time for Steve Thomas to release his resignation letter. Holy Hedgehogs, what a weekend that was. Frantic messages - I can't get in the forum! I have to post! Steve Thomas resigned! and so on. In November 1998, as I was preparing to go to Comdex, Justice Watch went dark. A poster named Gsquared had posted jameson's real name on the forum and jameson had called Tierranet (I used the same host Dan had used) to threaten litigation. I received an email telling me the site was down due to over three hours of telephone threats, that I had refused to do anything about it (which was a lie). I called Tierranet and they said that they just didn't have the resources to deal with all of the crazy JBR people - unfortunately, I was also tied to Dan's previous problems because I had made that credit card donation so they figured that I was part of Joshua-7 (which they had received many, many threats about). They said they would allow me to post a message as long as I didn't say anything about their taking the site down and that I could also use that as a forwarding point for a new site. Since that long sleepless night I've gotten a lot calmer if the site is down or if there are problems. oooh, gotta scoot...more later when I get time. "Somehow, Chris," Posted by Greenleaf on 09:28:54 7/31/2000 NOTE: This message was last edited 09:28:54, 7/31/2000 the truth always ends up bubbling to the surface. Thank God that you persisted. The truth is a powerful force and it's particular who it hangs out with. The truth is despised by all evil, including child abusers and murderers. Justice Watch seeks the truth. It is a tool for getting at the truth. It has been blessed with many decent and honorable citizens who want nothing more than the truth. Child abusers and murderers HATE Justice Watch. They HATE truth seekers. They will use whatever means are at their disposal to bring down such entities as Justice Watch. They did not count on the spirit of Justice Watch Forum. Warts and all, we are a formidable group; pit bull-like in our determination to find justice for JonBenet. Love and peace, Greenleaf p.s. EDITED to add this: Without shadow's "Sludge Reports" to keep us going, back in those old days on J-7, many of us would have simply faded away. LOL. Shadow, we love you. Heh-heh...snarl...uh, whoops... I had to leave Usenet for mailing lists, myself, because of the behavior there. Some of those posters were just like a dog on a bone, once they got started on a theme. Flame wars would go on for weeks and months. It made PLA seem kind of innocent and juvenile to me, I remember. Not that I miss the lads. Thanks for encouraging all the memories, Yung. You've always been a darlin'. Sharon, I did not know you were modernmom! Also can't believe I actually remember that thread ... but I do. It was wild, very controversial at that time and, well, memorable :-) . Harmony, did you ever hear from Mel after she left J-7? I didn't agree with her theory, but she really put in the time doing her homework. I've occassionally wondered whether she came back with a new hat, either here or at jameson's site. Tedleg, it's an exercise in futility to expect anything reasonable from Curious. He knows the same things we all know ... but that's not sufficient for the kind of attention he craves. He got me to play straight man (so to speak) for him a few times and, apparently, never got over it ... keeps trying to lure me back. Sometimes I indulge him ... usually not. I'm not talented at communicating with dead guys ... or zombies. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 3. "Great History, Chris..." Posted by LurkerXIV on 09:43:04 7/31/2000 Little did we know back in '98 (though many of us suspected) that Sue Bennett aka jameson was a paid member of the Ramsey Spin Team. Her main mission was to "take down" the internet JBR sites. How wonderful that you persisted, with a great involvement of time and money, to thwart the evil Jams and her employers, the Rams! I am looking forward to more. I remember one night when some cruel, vicious posts were put on the BNF, someone wrote a post: "Can't you just leave these women alone to post in peace." Or some such variation. Oh, and remember the poster "more?" She talked a lot about the Ramseys not having any sense of "boundaries." I used to try to read her posts but her lack of capitalization drove me nutz. One day I said something about it (on BNF, not a place where people took constructive criticism well), and Houston agreed with me. After that "more" began capitalizing. Cher . I first started reading the AOL boards (when I had AOL way back when) Then I discovered Ken Poltzin, Ma and I guess Joshua 7. Where did Webbsleuthes come in? (I kind of recall it.) I never posted at BNF. Actually, when the case first hit the news I wasn't really interested in it until I saw some of the tapes of Jonbenet dressed like a hooker. I couldn't believe this went on. I used to be involved in the children's clothing industry and I knew about pagents, but all I had seen was frilly ruffled dresses, none of this kind of stuff!! Being the first poster at BNF, I have witnessed a variety of hoaxes, flames, PLA take-overs, etc. I'm a member of the revised Dead List and I am responsible for more than a few flame threads, ok a lot of flame threads and a couple of parody pages. My favorites have been the Lady Bear thread, the BudJam thread, the Jammy Sightings Thread, and the all-time best was the IRC chat where Jammy revealed that he was a she and that she stabbed her other brother for molesting her with some snakes in a barn. I also got great pleasure in reading the secret Heaven forum months before it was ever revealed that we had found the backdoor. I have always been in the "parents did it" camp, first thinking it was JR, then Patsy, then back to JR and then to a combo of both. May they both rot in hell along with the home-baked half-wit from Hickory, NC. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 20. The other "vendor" was one of the creepy PLA posters that went into really sicko areas with the tees. Melissa, a little? FLOL. Lori, I can remember at least another one hundred hats for you..don't be shy, dahlink. One of my favorite BNF and J7 posters was babe. She had many hats, and every one of them was original and hysterically funny. Every hat had a unique personality that she used for flaming or just humor.
