I have been so up and down on this case lately,I have been saying soooo many prayers to find JFJB. I hope from the bottom of my heart that someday this will be finished, and she may rest in peace. Posted by Slinky on 23:54:32 8/03/2000 The butterflies are so pretty and so delicate looking! I understand though, that they can withstand some pretty harsh conditions. I hope the kids are really enjoying having them about. It's such a great way for kids to learn about nature that way, so close up and personal. We actually do get the Monarchs as far north as I am here for a very brief period of time when they are migrating en masse. That's really quite something to see when they are migrating that way, and they all land in one place at the same time! I never really realized that they were up here this far north. One year I remember looking out in my back yard, and becoming quite startled when I saw one of my Great Danes, Merlin, standing stock still almost in the middle of the yard .... completely motionless .... and it looked like the lawn all around him was ablaze with a fire! LOL ... My old eyes didn't focus quite quickly enough to realize for a moment that Merlin was standing in the center of a migration of Monarch butterflies, and their orange wing right next to orange wing throughout the entire yard made it look like the lawn was on fire. It was such a neat sight to see. I'm so sorry now that I never ran for the camera that day. I've never had the opportunity to see so many of them land all together like that again. I finally ended up planting a separate "hummingbird and butterfly garden" with perennials and flowering shrubs to attract the butterflies and hummingbirds that are passing through, but those big bumblebees seem to enjoy it best! Posted by China on 00:59:56 8/04/2000 ...is quite an experience, I invite you all to her lovely home in the most beautiful setting you can imagine. Just don't hope for real, live, hot coffee. However, the beds are soft, the dogs are friendly and the hospitality is excellent, so ya'all go on down. Just don't expect to find your way out of the Arkansas Ozarks easily. We are home safe and sound from traveling 1,000's of miles for not very fun reasons (Baybb's being the exception, of course) and we may find ourselves off on additional adventures soon. We miss JW, that's for sure. P.S. Baybb, I used Pedro's gift all the way home and he may never get to call it his own. Thanks! "China" Posted by Baybb on 02:02:49 8/04/2000 Just remember that it was you that didn't want to drive an hour south just to catch the interstate to go north again. So it may be one of those six of one, half dozen of the other things. :-) I am glad you are home safe tho I hated to see you leave and next time I will clean before you come. And after you left, I found the coffee. I knew I had bought some, it had fallen out of the bag and was still in the Van. The one place I never thought to look. And it wasn't DeCaf either. "Harriet, Oh Harriet" Posted by mame on 05:07:14 8/04/2000 NOTE: This message was last edited 05:07:14, 8/04/2000 These are for Anderson and Cher...the resident JW animal lovers (two of hundreds!) The kittens eyes just opened yesterday. We had to house them in Sadie's old crate (of which she can escape even with a padlock!) Maybe that's why Aussie's are picked as the smartest breed! Doodlebug named the grey striped kitty "Reggie". I have NO idea why. But, she wanted to make sure I told Chris the kitty's name! http://www.zing.com/album/?albumlist=0&tstart=0&tpics=20&tshowall=0&tnewonly=1&id=4293804639&tcols=3 I saw a TV spot for Trip DeMuth last night. Wow...he's a good-looking guy. Film clips of his family, etc. Who am I going to vote for? Decisions...decisions. My daughter is dating a great guy...I really thought he was perfect until yesterday...I found out he's a republican! Ha! Well, I guess it continues a long line of couples in our family whose independence cancels out a lot of votes. Hey, what's with the lime green on those Republican wives? Yuck. "Short day, janab" Posted by Watching you on 07:31:40 8/04/2000 LOL, and what a sweet little baby boy you have there. I was cheesing all the way through your pictures - you have a right to be proud. Yesterday, while in the grocery store, a woman and her little girl (probably around two years old), walked past me. I ALWAYS gawk at little kids. As I turned to look at this little girl, she turned and gave me the sweetest smile I've seen in ages - I just swelled up with joy and my heart melted at my feet. In the parking lot a little later, I saw the same mom and baby putting groceries in the trunk of the car. I was leaving the parking lot in my own car, so I swung over and stopped to tell the mother how her little girl made my whole day with that smile. Made mom happy, I think. God put babies and little kids on this earth to make OB's glad to be alive, I think. Have a Friday. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 22. "Good morning, have FAITH" Posted by Greenleaf on 07:00:50 8/04/2000 It's going to be another hot day, here in the Port City. Slinky, I am glad to see you again. I was asking about you on another thread yesterday. Someone emailed this to me. It's titled: FAITH. > > > "Here is a true story by Paul Harvey. Pass it to anyone who you think would find it interesting and inspiring. You will be surprised who this young man turns out to be. (Do not look at the bottom of this letter until you have read it fully.) Years ago a hardworking man took his family from New York State to Australia to take advantage of a work opportunity there. Part of this man's family was a handsome young son who had aspirations of joining the circus as a trapeze artist or an actor. This young fellow, biding his time until a circus job or even one as a stagehand came along, worked at the local shipyards, which bordered on the worse section of town. Walking home from work one evening this young man was attacked by five thugs who wanted to rob him. Instead of just giving up his money the young fellow resisted. However they bested him easily and proceeded to beat him to a pulp. They mashed his face with their boots, and kicked and beat his body brutally with clubs, leaving him for dead. When the police happened to find him lying in the road they assumed he was dead and called for the Morgue Wagon. On the way to the morgue a policeman heard him gasp for air, and they immediately took him to the emergency unit at the hospital. When he was placed on a gurney a nurse remarked to her horror, that this young man no longer had a face. Each eye socket was smashed, his skull, legs, and arms fractured, his nose literally hanging from his face, all his teeth were gone, and his jaw was almost completely torn from his skull. Although his life was spared,he spent over a year in the hospital. When he finally left, his body may have healed but his face was disgusting to look at. He was no longer the handsome youth that everyone admired. When the young man started to look for work again he was turned down by everyone just on account of the way he looked. One potential employer suggested to him that he join the freak show at the circus as "The Man Who Had No Face." And he did this for a while. He was still rejected by everyone and no one wanted to be seen in his company. He had thoughts of suicide. This went on for five years. One day he passed a church and sought some solace there. Entering the church he encountered a priest who had seen him sobbing while kneeling in a pew.The priest took pity on him and took him to the rectory where they talked at length. The priest was impressed with him to such a degree that he said that he would do everything possible for him that could be done to restore his dignity and life, if the young man would promise to be the best Catholic he could be, and trust in God's mercy to free him from his torturous life. The young man went to Mass and communion every day,and after thanking God for saving his life, asked God to only give him peace of mind and the grace to be the best man he could ever be in His eyes. The priest, through his personal contacts was able to secure the services of the best plastic surgeon in Australia. There would be no cost to the young man, as the doctor was the priest's best friend. The doctor too was so impressed by the young man whose outlook now on life, even though he had experienced the worst, was filled with good humor and love. The surgery was a miraculous success. All the best dental work was also done for him. The young man became everything he promised God he would be. He was also blessed with a wonderful, beautiful wife, many children, and success in an industry, which would have been the furthest thing from his mind as a career, if not for the goodness of God and the love of the people who cared for him. This he acknowledges publicly. The young man? Mel Gibson. His life was the inspiration for his production of the movie "The Man Without A Face." He is to be admired by all of us as a God fearing man, a political conservative, and an example to all as a true man of courage." Greenleaf p.s. In comparison to that, I have no problems.
