Well we have completed our plans for our whirlwind tour of the American Southwest. We will be landing in Albuquerque on the llth of September. I will say hi to you all while we remain high. We leave this Friday on another trip back up to Charlotte but that will only be for a weekend, so we will be back by Tuesday of next week for sure and then, just maybe, we will stay put for a while, It is about time, don't you think? This business about Patsy as reported in the Globe somehow has made me laugh a little bit. Do JWers really take all of that seriously? Talk to y'all later. It is a very sweltering 85 degrees here at 7 am. We are breaking heat, smog and humidity records up here in the Great White North. I can't complain, since I complain all winter long about the cold! I am starting a new career today at the ripe old age of 44. I have no clue what to expect, but what the heck, I'm up for anything. have a great day everyone:) Gail from T.O. Let's see, someone asked if we really took that business in the GLOBE about Patsy's love affair seriously, and my answer would be no. And my reason would be, I can't see where anyone would want the snooty beeach. She's like a two-bagger. Of course, her spouse is no prize, either, har har. Hotter here today than it is in Florida, I think. They showed the map of entire eastern part of country on weather this morning - supposed to hit 95 here today, very high humidy, hottest spot anywhere in the east. Even Florida. I don't know if I believe that, but I know all the grass around here is brown. That's not good. Everyone have a Tuesday. That set all time records for coolest temps for those days. It was because of all the rain and Tropical Storm Barry forming right off the coast. Alas, we are over all of that, so we are back to our regular humid days with afternoon thunderstorms. I think the high is supposed to be 91 today. Can we say "Mold spores"? Ellique, you certainly have your travelling shoes on these days! How far are you from Charlotte? That is a pretty area of the country. Took my son shopping yesterday - let's just say he looked like he needed "a mother's touch" when he arrived. He has been working so hard and travelling so much. He looked like he had rolled all the way from Philadelphia to Florida. Today he is going to get a haircut and we will then do another assessment. Being out of practice, I am extremely pleased with how quickly I snapped into action! When does the "Aha" come? You know the point where they say "Oh, look at my nasty shoes. Maybe I need to get some new ones."? Luckily, he is fabulous, absolutely fabulous, so I can almost bear him! He would be even more fabulous if he would get himself out of the band bizness and get himself into the graduate school bizness! But that is a tale for another day. :[ [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 12. "Driver" Posted by Ellique on 08:39:34 8/07/2001 From my spread in the swamps of extreme South Georgia, when we drive we usually split the diving into two days. It is about 600 miles driving distance but as the crow flies it is about 500 I would say. This weekend we will fly from Jax., Fla. so it won't be too bad on us old folks. Yes, people don't realize just how beautiful the Carolinas and Georgia really are. There are 3 distinct regions, all unique in there own right. You have the Low Country and the beaches, especially the Georgia string of "The Golden Isles". The State of Georgia owns most all of the Georgia coast barrier islands and beaches and they are all unspoiled and pristine without any bridges or cities on them. Let us pray that they stay that way. Then you have the Piedmont Plateau running through the 3 states where all the rolling hills, rivers and forests are. Lots of farming there. Then of course you have the foothills and mountains in all three states which makes up the southern end of the Appalachian Chain. Then there is the breathtakingly beauty of the Smokies. Yes Driver, beauty abounds in my part of the country. Sssssshhhhhhhh !! Don't dare let this secret get too widespread, else all those Floridians, and snow birds from the Northeast and Midwest will invade in larger numbers even. You can't stir them with a stick even now. They are coming in like gang-busters into little sleepy Georgia towns all over Georgia. They are messing up our beautiful mountains, especially. I own about 4 acres up near Young Harris, Georgia. A month doesn't go by that I don't get offers to buy some of it or all of it. About 15 years ago I put an arbitrary L of a high price on it and for a while I wasn't bothered but the carpetbagers are at my door again and folks, I mean it when I say it "AINT FOR SALE" at any price. This little slice of heaven will one day belong to my grand daughter,The Princess of York. I digress. Talk to y'all later. Posted by Voyager on 10:37:13 8/07/2001 Morning Everyone....Up late, and I am on my second cup of coffee following a general clean up of the den and kitchen after last night's combined Birthday party for Mr. V. and V. Jr..... Gosh, you wouldn't think there would be such a mess, as there were only 7 1/2 of us and we only had coffee, wine, chocolate cake, and gift opening here, as we went to an Italian Res. for dinner....but we are a rowdy group, and the kids stayed until almost 12 laughing over old stories and looking at the wonderful black and white 3x5 box camera pictures which Scoop and Mr. Scoop took of V. Jr. and Liz's wedding....there were so many great ones that we will have to have a second evening for choosing our favorites for reprinting.... We did not even have time to put the CD of color wedding photos from the wedding photographer into the computer...that is another full days adventure... Wrapping up a wedding takes about 4 months to do after the actual wedding date....for those of you who are in the planning stage (Gem and Sparky), just plan on it.... Anyway, the guys loved their gifts and especially their traditional double chocolate cake....the sink is filled with dessert dishes and the den full of boxes and wrapping paper....you would think that we had just had Christmas! Any of you (Starry and Gem esp.) who want to make a holiday out of a regular day, need to go ahead and make your guys happy with one of these choc. cakes! Almost nothing will put a :) on their face like a choc. cake....well maybe one thing! But forget Sparky, she is gonna be dieting and slim, but you will notice in a few days how mean and cranky, and superior she is sounding... take my advice ya'll, go for the cake.... Now, on to other Voyager family business.....Our new parents to be....V. Jr. and Liz have come up with two wonderful names for little newbie girls, but I am not allowed to tell you unless you guess (these are their rules!)....I am giving these one time hints, and then you'll just have to guess from there....I repeat, these are the LAST hints.... Name #1. The first name is the name of a famous desert. Name #2. The second name is the name of a famous street. I told them Chris's story about the sonogram being wrong with Zak and all, and that they had better go ahead and choose a few boy's names as well, but I don't think they are listening to me....so we may be the family with a boy named "Sue"! Lordy, remember that old song! Ha! Gail, how great you are trying something new after all the years in the same field...I bet you will feel energized and renewed for all your efforts at change....I went back to the University just after turning 40 to take some courses in which I had become interested...no career plans, but I felt like a new person and really benefited by the change and the widening of my horizons... Starry, sorry that Mr. Starry did not get that position, but really pulling for him here, that he gets an offer on the second one....will be waiting to hear....And so very glad to hear that Carl is making progress with his Chemo treatment....there are miracles out there and I am praying that there is one for him.... Going for my third cup of coffee, know I shouldn't and will pay for it later, but need to have one to go visiting over to Ms. Brady's to get my daily dose of gossip.... Back later to see what ya'll are up to...Voyager [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 24. "Busy, busy, busy" Posted by Bets on 11:28:27 8/07/2001 My brother, his wife and four small kids have been visiting - whew, what a lot of noise and activity. The other day we were sitting around the pool, watching the kids play. Their six and nine year old were bickering over a toy while the four year old was running around like a madman, screaming bloody murder if anyone even tried to splash water in his general direction. There I was, thinking to myself how glad I am NOT to have to be raising four little ones, when my brother and sister-in-law asked if hubby and I would be willing to take their two girls, in the event they both died together! YIKES. We thought about it and told them that we'd take all four because it would be devastating to split them up, if they ever were in the position of losing both parents. My poor sister-in-law cried! She admittted to being horrified at the thought of having to separate her children but just couldn't picture that anyone would be willing to take on all four. Hubby says this will certainly make him take a vested interest in my brother and his wife's health and well-being, from here on! The weather in San Diego is pleasant - as always. Just ask Janab! I thought of some of my forum friends who live in hot country the other night when we had a bonfire at the beach. I was wearing heavy sweats PLUS a lightweight jacket, with a blanket over my legs! Sure was pretty though. There was a full moon reflecting on the waters and we had a perfect view of the fireworks at Sea World. That and S'mores cooked on a hanger made for a pretty perfect evening. Still trying to get ready for Hawaii. We're only doing one island (Maui), as our time is limited. I'm looking forward to a very relaxed, laid-back week before the hustle and bustle of a new school year starts. Voyager, I'm so happy to hear of your good health report. It's so disheartening -- I don't think I have ever felt this down before. I hate feeling this way! :P And it's hot here to boot. Nearing 90 and HUMID. It's not supposed to be this humid here. BLEAH! "chasing tails" Posted by fly on 12:42:57 8/07/2001 I noticed somebody posting about a cat that chases its tail a lot. At least for dogs, there is now some thought that extensive tail-chasing is a disorder similar to OCD in people, and that SSRI's (e.g., Prozac) might be an effective treatment for dogs. I assume the same theory would apply to cats. In spite of all the carping people do about Boulder and CO, their lack of humidity and their cool summer nights are looking mighty good in comparison to the sauna of the Midwest right now. Fly, Colorado is a wonderful place....If we did not chose to live in NM, we would live in CO, and we vacation and travel there 3 or 4 times a year.... Even Boulder is a beautiful setting with the Flat Iron Mts. looming close by and the lovely wildflower meadows rising just to the edge of the town....the problem is of course, an inbred financial/political group of elitist back-patters with the devil riding on their shoulder who have current control over not only the politics of Boulder but extendeding into the State House as well....a tragic comentary for this great pioneer state with such a noble frontier history.... Hey JR! Love your pet pictures and I think your hot pink carpet is adorable! A neat background for you, your antiques, and your menagerie! Also, we have something in common...I have a red convertible too....only mine is an antique! Fun huh? Lurker, Mr. Lurker sounds like a babe....As much as I dislike chemistry, I would be tempted into his class if I lived close by.....lucky lady you! For the past 25 years I have worked as a Kindergarten Teacher, well today I started work as a Housing Administrator for a Government agency which provides housing and resources for families seeking low/affordable housing. I have worked as a volunteer in this sector for many years, and now I have decided that I needed a change. I used my years of voluntary work as an avenue to break into something which I know I enjoy. This morning was a little strange sitting with a group of adults as opposed to a group of 4/5 year olds. However I am looking forward to new and exciting challenges that this job will provide. To Starry, I think the career your looking for is retirement lol:)but is that is out of the question I will do some research for you. The wedding plans become just a leetle more complicated as we go along. Having first nixed a rehersal dinner, daughter-the-elder has now decided it will be a good idea. Same goes for a shower, but a friend is giving that for her the weekend after labor day. Hope the groom's grandparents don't get TOO excited about all this. Don't want to send their blood pressures sky-rocketing. That was the whole point in having the wedding near their home. They have called several times ... Carolina and all the southern states for that matter and I wasn't impressed. If they didn't have winters too cold for my bones, they had hurricanes. Being a native Texan it only made sense to "come home" (though I was born further North.) So dear Lique, your acreage is safe from this carpetbagger. So, your granddaughter is a princess eh? My oldest grandson is a Duke. Full title is: Louke the Duke of the Cookiecrumbgrinders. ;-) Gail - good luck on the new career. WY - your map was wrong. We have already beat your 95 thought the heat index currently is only showing 102. Twitch the cake popper - shall we let you practice at the Texas Do? Driver - the "Aha" moment seldom comes. Looking for a job sucks biggly. When my sister was between jobs she had her own system of turning in her resume and seeking interviews ... Monday was not good because people were taking care of business from the weekend. Tuesday was ok, in the afternoon, because the people the big-wigs couldn't see on Monday, come in on Tuesday morning. Wednesday is hump day and is no good for anyone who interviews... they're taking a long lunch mid-week. Thursday's are the best day to look for a job. And Friday is completely out of the question, as are the weekends. Heat index was not so bad here today. I actually cooled off in my air conditioned car within 10 minutes as opposed to 30. Janab knows what I'm talking about. WY, I have an a/c which I turn down to 70, but most days it doesn't get below 80 until after dark... and I have 3 fans.
