"Shall I be first?" Posted by Country Girl on 23:13:44 8/14/2000 It's evening here in Hooterville, ending another blast furnace day in the Mojave Desert. I'm taking the metrolink to Los Angeles in the morning for a 3:30pm business meeting and then I'm having dinner with both my daughters. :) Today is my 7th wedding anniversary (August 14th) with MrCG. He bought me a wonderful pottery fountain for my living room with Native American art on it. A little pottery jug pours the water into the larger pottery pot over little river rocks. He is a keeper. I told him after the beautiful turquoise bracelet he bought me for our 5th anniverary that only cards were required for at least 10 years. LOL! I got him a nice set of BBQ tools for his new charcoal BBQ, and I bought him his SuperCharts software he has been salivating over! His job is to make lots of $$$ with his trading system so I can spend it. LOL! Don't know when I'm coming back home but I'll try checking in from LA. You all take care. Good Tuesday, everyone. I've decided I'm not going to eat eggs for a while because I dreamed last night I started to eat an egg and it turned into a little chickie. That's all they are, you know, unfertilized chickens. That dark yellow yolk sparky was talking about in the brown eggs is a chickie, and double yolks are twin chickies. Now, aren't y'all ashamed of yourselves? Have a day. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 5. I've never been able to get past that visual and eat an egg since... Morn' all, hope you enjoyed your breakfast.lol [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 52. "Eggs..." Posted by Ayeka on 10:08:18 8/15/2000 I really hope you all are kidding about the egg stuff -- it's really hard to tell sometimes... :) But, in case not, I've gotta say: The yolk is the nourishment for the chick-to-be, not the chick itself. The stringy stuff is definitely NOT rooster sperm :) Eggs are not chicken embryos... they are just eggs. That means unfertilized! :) Eating eggs and loving them, Ayeka ps. Sabrina, I am totally jealous of your trip to the museum... [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 6. "Rooster Viagra" Posted by Cutter on 08:09:56 8/15/2000 Well I'll tell ya... About 30 years ago I visited an egg farm on a school field trip. If I remember right, there were about 200 hens and only one single rooster. So if that little white glob in an egg is what you all seem to think it is, I really want to know exactly what they feed that rooster! Maybe there should be an expression that goes something like, "More productive than a rooster on oysters"... "Good morning" Posted by ericasf on 07:02:50 8/15/2000 I went to the doc yesterday to have my cat scan. It showed fluid buildup but that's not a big deal. I go to my oncologist on Friday. I have been having pain all over my abdomen, like the pain i had at the beginning. The blood tests from last week came up with no sign of infection. That's the same results I got from the first blood test that lead to finding the cancer in the first place. So that doesn't please me. Doctors have tried to put a positive spin on it but no one has told me that the pain is caused by that fluid and scar tissue. So until I hear that all is ok from my oncologist, I am a nervous wreck. Chris, thanks for giving me back my membership on JW. I needed this outlet of support more than you know. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 13. "ericasf" Posted by Watching you on 07:13:33 8/15/2000 waiting is always the worst. Try to stay focused on positive thoughts, if you can. Negativity hurts your body as well as your mind. Imagine a beautiful white light above your head, close your eyes and breathe that white light in. In your mind, spread that healing white light over and around all the areas you hurt, send the light over all of your body. Breathe out the pain, the bad vibes, the bad cells. Do this as often as you can - not a physician's way of dealing with things, but I believe your mind can help heal you. You are in my prayers. "Mane Attraction" Posted by Lacey on 07:37:04 8/15/2000 Go Tell Someone Who Cares Dept. Hi everybody! I almost got killed by my curling iron today! I am serious, I had it on the counter heating it up as usual and it was a-sssssmokin' a bit, beginning to smell funny, so what. That's what I thought, I was in a hurry so so what. I thought maybe I had sprayed something on it and it was just burning off?, Soooooooo, cool, I start curling and LORD A-MERCY all this hisssssin' and I dropped it quickly and to my HORROR my HAIR was singed right onto the barrel, and then it was REALLY smokin' and smelly. Then the little nub fell off and I could see some brown melty stuff at the tip of the inside of the barrel. Or, barrel?, is that right, or is it the shaft.. nub, shaft.. those things look rather like some kind of hot bizarre phallic symbols anyways eh? Whatever, seriously, I am serious, I almost DID DIE, I am not making this up, it was a very narrow escape. Phew. And another thing, my front forelocks are singed, can you believe it?! Smelled like, well, like burnt hair actually, go figure. I had to start me completely over 'cause I have a full day today and I couldn't very well go running around smelling like fire. (So what am I doing here, you ask.) Fortunately I am low maintenance. Well, the moral of the story is, don't curl if you smell smoke -- the life you save may be your own. I was lucky. I lived to tell the tale. This has been brought to you as a public service announcement by someone who cares. We return you now to your regular programming, carry on Lacey Lucky to be Alive . "Heh, Anderson," Posted by LurkerXIV on 10:59:29 8/15/2000 There are many, many women whose hairdo's are frozen in time. (Like Tammy Faye's eyelashes, LOL). They seem to prefer the "do" that was popular when they were in HS, or in their early dating years. Believe me, I see "mall bangs" every day in Northern PA. You can pretty much figure out their age by the hairdo. I'm one who changes the "do" every decade. The kids and grandkids roar when they see me with my 60's bouffant in photos. One thing I never did was frosted, though. The color is white now, but over the decades it was various shades of red/auburn. (Hey, this deserves a Front Porch Thread). "Sad story here" Posted by Anderson on 09:05:46 8/15/2000 Grandmother Questioned in Death MORE DETAILS • related links A grandmother is being questioned in the death of her two-year-old grandson. The child was left for nine hours inside her car, as it was parked in the heat outside of South DeKalb Mall Monday. The 41-year-old grandmother, Deborah Welch, told police she usually drops the child at daycare on her way to work. Monday, she forgot and didn't remember leaving the child in the car until she finished her job at the mall's social security offices eight hours later. A passerby spotted the child in the car and alerted authorities. An autopsy is being performed, but it appeared two-year-old Hezekiah Silvester Welch died of heat exhaustion. DeKalb Police will question the grandmother again Tuesday. They have not yet criminally charged her in the case. http://www.11alive.com/local/local_top_story.asp?storyid=2379 That breaks my heart. Ericasf, the US has a couple of rescue vehicles and trained rescuers, but the rescue vehicles are very iffy, I think. I saw something on news last evening about this - the technology is not great, but any chance is better than no chance. Problem is, a rescue attempt would be very risky for resuers as well as rescuees because divers would have to descend to sub depth to physically attach certain things. There is nothing worse, I think, than being helpless to do anything when you know people are dying. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 45. I had a hysterectomy many years ago for severe endometriosis. A few months after the surgery I started having the same pain in the same spot as before. I was terrified that it was coming back. But the doctor said it was scar tissue and gas. I now know that if I have a little gas it will hurt in that spot. Hopefully that willput your mind at ease. Now, for you silly folks. Those of you with great husbands really piss me off. I prefer friends who have lousy husbands, so I can gloat over being single. Lacey, a grad. student of mine was telling a story one night in the bar. She and her partner decided to take a romantic shower together. They lit a candle in the bathroom. AS things, er, heated up, they started to smell something foul. They looked outside the shower and the cat's tail had caught on fire. They had to cease their activities to put the cat out. Finally, museum exhibits. A museum in Dallas is having an exhibit called The Stroganoffs. I guess they're showing faberge eggs and other gaudy Russian stuff. I guess I've just always been super-responsible that way - when it comes to kids especially, you just don't ever take your eye off them in public, you never leave them alone in a car, you check on them to be sure they are breathing every 2 minutes when they are sleeping (yes, I really do that when I have babies at my home). In fact, a little paranoia doesn't hurt when kids are involved. JMO [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 48. "Grandmother Forgetting Baby in the Car" Posted by Sharon on 09:32:26 8/15/2000 The Kentucky baby left downstairs is way wierd (as in, suspicious) but I guess I can see how an older person might forget her grandchild in a car. I've watched my mother-in-law have some very definite and disturbing senior moments, especially since the death of her husband. But, then again, I wouldn't leave my infant child in her solitary care, knowing that she's experiencing confusion and loss of memory. On another topic: it looks like Midsi's abductor might have had something to do with Xiana Fairchild's disappearance. This has been a real eye-opener for me and a lesson in making assumptions. "Babies" Posted by janab on 10:04:08 8/15/2000 WY, I would definitely not leave a 10-month-old sleeping on the floor because they can crawl around and get into potentially dangerous situations if they wake up. I do, however, leave little Ben on a blanket on the floor sometimes while I'm cooking dinner (but I can see him from where I'm standing). A few years ago, there was a man here who did the same thing as the grandmother above. His wife usually took the baby to daycare, but for some reason on this particular day she could not. So, he had the baby in the car and forgot about it until he got off of work that day. In that situation, I could understand a little better because this was not the man's usual routine and if he had a long drive to work and the baby fell asleep, he might forget. HOWEVER, I agree that it should enter your mind some time during the day and not wait until a full 8-hour work day has passed. So, in the case of the grandmother mentioned above, that was her NORMAL routine (to take the baby to daycare). In that case, I just don't see how you could forget. Whenever our routine changes and my husband has to pick up the kids from daycare for some reason, I call him at least two times during the day to remind him (one of those times being right when he is supposed to leave work) because I'm so afraid he'll forget since it is not our usual routine. (Just thought I'd throw that in there.) Sharon, this grandmother was not old. She was 41. That's not old, is it? Sorry if I drifted off and give you quite a start. Know this, I mean no ill will. I'm just trying to find the right meds and the appropriate niche in my life. When you think I'm really "off the spoooolll", please "call me on it". I won't necessarily like it in the beginning, but I'll be very happy later. It means I need to take that awful meds to secure some hold on reality. Don't ever take your view of life as "simple or rediculous or ugly." Or even, "confusing".. Give yourself a real break and believe in yourself and your mind. If you experience a break in reality, like I did, well, you tested it and you're ready for the next venue. I love you and all things.
