"Please!" Posted by Chris on 14:51:54 9/06/2000 repeating an earlier comment/request...oh, and this is a clue for those of you looking for that "missing" thread that's not really "missing." Truthfully, I hate moderating more than you hate being moderated! It's one of the hardest things to do. No matter which decision you make, some will agree and some won't. Also, let's try to keep popular topics to around 40 or 50 posts both for bandwidth and those with slower computers. I will archive threads that are getting longer than that but they will still be available during the time the discussions are taking place (that's the only way that I have to prevent them from being posted on). Archiving an active thread will only be done in that instance. Thanks, Chris [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 1. "Chris..." Posted by Jellyjaws on 16:44:52 9/06/2000 I don't know too much about "band widths" but I do want to cooperate. It was helpful to learn from your post that "refreshing" threads results in "hits." Yipes, do I ever do that! Never had a clue. I'm guilty, Chris, and am going to sit in my little "time out" chair for a while. Teach us more! We'll try. Thank you, Chris. Love, Jelly! "MHO" Posted by Zandra on 19:20:42 9/06/2000 I would not have ventured my opinion without your repeated request, Chris, since I don't participate enough in the social life of this forum to consider myself a regular, although heaven knows I have been lurking long and frequently. But since you asked... I would hate to see the forum be made private. I think the addition of new members is what has kept the forum vital and interesting. If all we had were the original members of the group, we would (most of us, anyway) eventually run out of anything more to say, about the case, at least. Lots of us who have been here for a long time have already gotten to that point. I don't know about a fee for posting, or how you would pro-rate it. On the other hand, I would be hesitant myself to incur the expense of a dedicated server unless I knew I had the income to cover it. I think you personally are a heroine for doing all you have done to date, although, having watched your progress as webmistress, I gotta say that maybe the first-rate education you have managed to acquire in the process might have been worth your while. If you want a paying job somewhere doing this very thing, you are more than qualified to pull in the big bucks. I remember back when Ma Brady was just another poster on the BNF, for that matter. So I think voluntary contributions would be swell, but I wouldn't want to have to pay the mortgage with them. OTOH, is there any way you could add enough commercial stuff to pay the bill? I sure don't mind using this page as an entry into Amazon, but obviously you will need more than that. I'd say that the financing is totally your call, since you are the one with the financial liability. I have no idea how much legal risk you run by hosting the forum. Being an American, I would like to think that free speech counts for something in this country, and that a public forum on the Internet is a place where people can speak their minds without fear of being sued for their opinions. Once again, however, your liability, your call. I don't see how anyone could criticize your decisions, whatever they may be. Finally, let me express my personal thanks to you for doing all that you have done so far. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 3. "Chris" Posted by Greenleaf on 21:03:45 9/06/2000 Chris, I just read Zandra's beautifully written post, and I agree with every word; especially his/her opinion of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you, as you make final decisions regarding Justice Watch. Love, peace, Greenleaf [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 4. "Remember to click to support JW" Posted by Cassandra on 07:06:09 9/07/2000 Besides my fave Amazon, there are other links. For those of you with pets, there's a link to pet stuff. I only have dust bunnies! Good post, Zandra. Cassie [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 5. "Chris" Posted by guardian on 13:37:58 9/07/2000 I really know very little about computer's, and nothing about running a forum. I love JW however. Anything you want or need from me just ask. The thread I started called "A Couple Questions" is now over 60. Would you like me to gather the last 10+ together and post them as #2? Let me know, and I'll do it. Thanks riv [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 8. "River" Posted by Chris on 16:32:01 9/07/2000 Yes, please if you don't mind, that would be great! Also, I think it's helpful if the first post includes a link to the second. That way, it's real simple for me to archive the first one. However, it's not that big of a deal and I can always make that link when I put the original in the archive. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 9.
