Hi LurkerXIV! Was in your neighborhod a couple of times last week, had to have surgery with a Dr. Lightman, had a detached retina, not good. But had surgery to correct it, hope that is good! One of these days I am going to kidnap you for lunch... starry and others who have been missing welcome back. Lacey, mame, Holly and all I happen to like to hear ALL of your opinions even though I don't agree with some of them, they are after all just opinions, right? Ft - you are too funny ;-) Here's the best quote from yesterdays daily - From momo- "Everyone needs to get off sugar like I have. It makes you so much happier and not so moody. Everyone go to bed now and see if we can't wake up on the right side of the bed tomorrow. LOL" [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 3. "miss you!" Posted by Cher on 00:35:21 9/28/2000 AK, I got a big laugh out of that news bit about the CD that plays lawnmower sounds to get even with your neighbors! Mr. C says we're going to install giant fans around the perimeter of our property and let them run 24/7! We'll sleep so much better knowing that if an errant leaf falls,it will automatically be blown onto our neighbor's property. Kitty started exhibiting mysterious behavior. She hops into our bed earlier than we do and finds a place right at the base of the pillows. Then when we come to bed, she licks Mr. C's arm off (I tell him it's because he's furry, too!). If either of us tries to get up, she extends a little paw and wraps it around our arm with her claws subtly protracted. Not enough to scratch; just enough to let one know there is a paw full of claws there. Another thing she will do is gently bite on the arm. Not a hurtful bite, just a "hold-on-to-you" bite. I can only surmise that it's because both of us have been gone in the day for the last three weeks. She doesn't want to let us leave her! Funny little cat. Welcome back, Starry and Cassie. Really missed you both. Voyager, you really have a way with words. MsR, I see what you mean. PegB, that sounds like serious stuff. Hope things are going to be OK now. Cher . Not to say anything that will start a thread full of flames and hurtful things. Truce, Lacey? Brand new day and brand new beginnings. My apologies to mame, Chris and everyone yesterday who opened the daily to see it full of negative posts. I just get bent out of shape when I see/hear someone being less than fair to someone else. I should learn to keep my mouth shut. I know there are others who will agree with that. Hello LurkerXIV, Anderson, Cher, Voyager,Cassie, momo and all who extended me a warm welcome back yesterday. It's great to be back, if only for a few days. It eases some of my withdrawl pains. I have missed you all as well as every one of you who post such interesting, funny, intelligent things. I hesitate to start naming names, as you are all special and unique to me. I spent the day in Waldorf getting some errands taken care of and by the time I came home, I was beat. In bed and asleep by 9. Those phone calls I intended to make never got made last night. Sorry. I keep smelling cinnamon this morning. Could it be my subconcious telling me to go bake some cinnamon rolls? Nah, my mind wouldn't pull a dirty trick on me like that, would it? Well, there it is. A suggestion planted like a seed that needs to bloom. I probaly won't be happy until I have a hot, sweet, gooey roll with my coffee. And then I'll moan and groan when I give in and "weigh" the consequences. Will there ever be Justice for JonBenet? Absolutely. If not in this world, the next. Will we live to see it? It's looking less like it all the time. huggs, starry [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 5. "Good Morning" Posted by momo on 04:38:31 9/28/2000 Thanks Peg! I really do feel much better w/out sugar. Starry, you did nothing wrong yesterday. Stop apologizing. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you say. Especially when Mame's name gets brought up, people start coming out of the woodwork. I am off today. Think I'll go to the bookstore. As much as I love the mall and all the clothes, perfume, good food, etc., my favorite store is the bookstore. My mom says when she couldn't find me I would be up in my room engrossed in a book. I always enjoy your balloon travels. This forum is amazing for many reasons. One being that we can share the experiences of others, both good and bad, and learn all the intricacies of different occupations, pastimes, and of course hear about what other people are reading! I LOVE the daily threads where everybody catches up and share info! Thanks, Chris, for providing this spot! Here comes the soapbox opinion:::::::: I am weary of the insults and carping at various posters both here and at CS. It distracts from the original purpose of the forum, and is mean spirited, in my opinion. That's all I have to say on the subject. Stepping down off the soapbox now. Where is China?????? Some of her old fashioned ass whupping is needed here lately!!! BBL. Stuff to do. Books to read. Breakfast calling my name. Raining, so I can skip my walk with a clear conscience. By the way, while on sabbatical, I cut way down on sugar, snacks, bread, etc. and lost a bunch of weight. I think I'll get out my Sugar Busters Diet Book and peruse it again. "Canadiana, foot pain" Posted by MJenn on 07:43:48 9/28/2000 I had this for about 6 months or more this year: plantar fasciitis. It's very aggravating and during the worst, I limped worse than Grandpa McCoy when I first got up. I thought it would never go away, but one day it did. Right about the time my left elbow started aching like crazy. So this is old age? Anyhow, save yourself a trip to the doctor unless the pain is unbearable. It's always worse in the morning or after you've been seated, like you said, for awhile, but improves as you walk on it. The 3 things I did, which my doctor told me, are: 1) wear very soft soled, COMFORTABLE shoes, (no high heels) and get a set of soft Dr. Scholl's heel inserts for your shoes; 2) soak your foot in alternating hot and cold water (I only used hot, in one of those electric foot baths with rollers you can run your sole and heel up and down--heaven!); 3)stretch your tendons and muscles in your heel/foot by doing those "runner's" foot and leg stretches, where you lean forward with your foot/heel keeping contact with the floor (careful, don't overdo and snap your tendon, just gently flex), and also you can do little knee bends with one foot out front, keeping your heel on the floor; another good one is standing with toes/ball of foot on the edge of a step, facing the step, with your heel hanging off, and gently lowering you heel just an inch or two. Hope it gets better really soon, but don't lose patience, because my doctor said it takes about six months or more. The trick for me was comfortable shoes. I spent mucho money on Easy Spirits, tennis and dressier. Bummer, 'cause I love my shoes, and have only been able to look lovingly at most of them, even though I always buy for comfort. What was really weird was I got the injury wearing a new pair of very comfy Nikes. Somehow, the sole of that shoe was hard on my heel, so when I went walking, voila! Well, I've never posted on this thread before, but since I'm here, good morning to all. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 10. I won't use you for your money. I am looking forward to many stimulating conversations about your philosophy of life. Peace and love to all the great minds around here. The post by Tess jolted me a bit. We need to all remember the posters and key players all have children, parents, brothers, sisters, and friends that might lurk/post here. Picked on a post from Mame yesterday: AND, as far as journalistic flames...a highly repspected media watch dog group and professors and grad students from a top notch journalism school have read here for some time...they are doing a study on "grassroots" journalism, it's pureness...AND the misunderstanding of what a journalist's job is...hell, they think it's outrageous that you would suggest NOT covering a story in which a witness comes forward in a murder case...you might think you're GOD but i don't. it's not my job to say "hey, i don't like this broad...guess i won't cover this story..." get real..and find your manners... Thank you Mame for the inspiration. You inspired me to find my manners and remember to thank our early pioneers for all that they have done for us. It is a fitting tribute to realize that we are monitored by highly regarded professionals due to the blood, sweat and tears of people like Dan Trevino, Mrs. Brady, Panico, Chris, Questioner, Toppcat, and many other early pioneers in the internet grassroots journalism movement. There are many names/hats missing from my list. We who have been here know them all (forgive my brevity). We all owe them so much. About the foot pain - I know two women who have foot spurs, I think they are called. I've never had them myself, but they say they hurt like the devil - can't exercise or walk very far. My neighbor has them. I try to get her to walk with me, but she can't go far. Girl at work here has had hers operated on three times - every time they have come back. I don't even know what they are or what causes them. It's like in the low 50's here today - supposed to have a hard frost tonight - squaw winter, which will then lead into Indian summer. A few years ago, I got to a point after activity like tennis, that I could hardly walk from the pain in my heels. Went to a foot specialist, who xrayed and diagnosed my heel spurs. Went thru quite alot of unsuccessful treatment, including exercises, arch supports, and cortisone shots in my heels. No Luck... I finally went to a foot doctor at the Mayo Clinic. He said "everyone has some form of spurs on their heels. What you have is tendonitis in the bottom of your feet. He perscribed me some rubber heel pads, and, voila! no more heel pain since. Told me way more than my doctor did. Of course, she only have 10 minutes to meet her daily quota. Medicine sure ain't what it used to be. Thank god for the internet. As for Anna Nicole, I say GO GIRL. Being married to that dried up old man for 14 months would definitely require $450 million in compensation in my book. Especially with those greedy old stepsons to deal with. And think about all that silicone she had to lug around to get the old man's attention. Oh, my aching back!! I really feel for you as I think it is important to be in pleasant surroundings while one works. Being a hothead about such matters, I'd already be on the phone interviewing! Grrrrr. I am afraid I am not as gracious and cosmic about it as Voyager. This (from private office to cubicle) happened to me once and I did immediately go out and get another offer. I had that competitive offer within the week! So I went back to them, showed them the letter that had been given as offer of employment, and got not only a better office but a raise, too. That doesn't always work, though. Sometimes they feel manipulated when you do that. Even with a private office here, there's still the loudmouth next door. Some days I just want to grab her, shake her, and tell her to get a grip!!! And shut up already!!! MJenn--you know plantar fasciitis. That post summed it up very well. I have it, too, and have found it never really goes away. It always flares up if I do too much, like gardening all day Saturday and Sunday. Or if I walk too much. Cher . I hope today can be a more peaceful day here. Janab, I feel for you. I had to quit a job once because of office politics. I was already on "mahogany row", but my boss was brought out of his office behind me and plopped in a cubby hole where he then faced me through the glass in the upper partition, and a man who had been the Chief Engineer took his place because someone else threatened to leave the company if he couldn't be the Chief Engineer! I told my new boss that I would be delighted if he brought his secretary with him (who is now 80 years old and still my friend), but he didn't, so I finally just left. Never went back to that place! Just got back from an MRI on my left knee, so expect to hear something in a few days about what is wrong and what might need fixing. Sorry to hear about foot problems. You know, we just were not meant to walk upright, and that's all there is to it. I have a neuroma on my left foot that acts up every once in awhile if I go barefoot too much. Then when I get up in the morning, it feels as though I am walking on a water balloon. This growing older is for the birds, but then, considering the alternative, it's not all that bad. The next world is far better, but I'm not ready to go there just yet! May we all be filled with the spirit of kindness and givingness toward one another. We are all leaves upon the same tree of life. "Afternoon, everybody" Posted by fly on 12:37:35 9/28/2000 Between the saccharin posts directed at mame and all the talk about warts, viruses, and heel spurs, I think I'm going to lose my lunch. Like Lacey, I don't think yesterday's daily thread was all that bad. While Lacey's comments might have been unnecessary, they hardly surpassed mame's in terms of insults or vitriole. With the exception of Brightlight's Mel Gibson comment, the other posts concerning mame were mostly quite modest disagreements with her position, questions about comments she had made in her posts, and pro-mame posts, with the last sub-category having at least as many entries as the two former ones combined. Lots of trod-upon toes yesterday, so I guess all this talk about sore feet makes some sense. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 33. " Posted by momo on 15:31:31 9/28/2000 Has anyone heard from Ginja? I certainly hope she didn't let the thread at CS get her down. Seems there are a couple of posters (won't mention any names) who don't want to see justice for JonBenet. Oh, they say they do, but when certain names are mentioned, they go into overkill trying to discredit anyone who will seek justice at any cost no matter who it points to. Seems that there is one poster here that gets very personal with mame everytime she posts no matter what it is about. It could be about mame planting a garden and the poster would say mame was trying to get attention from flowers. But you would never hear that same poster say anything contradictory about other gardeners here. Very personal....makes one wonder. "Electrocuted Olympian" Posted by FT on 15:30:34 9/28/2000 You just can't get away from these "Olympian Overcomes Outrageous Obstacle" stories. I went to a lighting store on my lunch hour to look at fixtures, and a discussion about electricity naturally led to a discussion about electrocution, which (the Olympics being what they are this year) naturally led to a story about the electrocuted Olympian. Anyone else hear this one? Cassie? Apparently, this fellow jackhammered through a major powerline and was shocked with 30,000 volts of electricity. The shock blew holes through his head and feet, and he lost a couple of toes. But he went on to win an Olympic medal in rowing, according to the lighting store employee. One of the reasons I never posted much was I didn't want to become an echo chamber. Do want to clarify my prior post. My intent was not to saccharin post a tribute to mame. This current fiasco had left me reflecting upon some of the true pioneers of this new frontier. I was reflecting upon the efforts others had given to pave the way for some of our current forum "celebs". I was remembering when egos and feelings weren't so fragile, when people were guided by their own selves and not fan clubs. My post was commentary on how I miss and appreciate that spririt. I was "hoping" that others could be inspired by that and be thankful for the gifts that have been given to them. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 50. "A Thousand Thank Yous!!!" Posted by canadiana on 19:22:51 9/28/2000 Thanks so much Dr. Tee for referring me to the plantar faciitis web site. I am sure this is what is going on with my feet. This has been going on for three and a half years now and I am not getting any relief. Why is it that when I go to the doctor, my feet suddenly STOP hurting? Somehow I have not been able to get my point across, since I walk just fine and nothing hurts when I get to the doctor's office. But she recently referred to me a foot clinic and I am going very soon. The website helped me a great deal, thank you SO MUCH. As Cher said, it seems to be much worse after a lot of walking. Sometimes I think the doctor thinks, well you've gained a lot of weight, lose it and you won't have foot pain. Well, if I could get up and walk around I could lose the weight!! MJenn, thanks to for the advice. I now feel there may be hope! Thanks again Dr. Tee and I am sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I really appreciate your help! "Feet and weight" Posted by DrTee on 20:08:45 9/28/2000 That's how so many of us found out that going low-carb helped us with the plantar fasciitis. The doctor told us to lose weight. Well, I didn't lose weight, but the pf went away. It has helped a lot of people (going low carb), but since there haven't been any expensive grant-funded studies to prove it, it doesn't really work yet. You might try it.
