"Every hand is needed" Posted by MJenn on 22:14:37 10/02/2000 Good morning. I'm sorry to intrude on your community thread, but I felt this was a good place to ask for your help with the letter/email campaign underway to seek justice for JonBenet. On the thread entitled "I Have Lost All Confidence..." I have posted a letter to Attorney General Janet Reno. I hope you'll find the time to read it and to support this effort to bring attention to the injustices going on in Boulder and Colorado's legal and political communities. Everyone counts in this effort, as many raindrops wear mountains into valleys. (And Seashell, I had one aunt survive breast cancer for over 20 years, into her mid-eighties, and another aunt who has survived it 20 years and is still going in her eighties. God bless.) I've followed the case for many years...I certainly hope the Ramsey case does not prove to be as impregnable as the Zodiac murders. Warmth, light, and good thoughts to Seashell today... MJenn...yes, I'm sending off e-mails and (if I get a moment) written letters to the "powers that be" regarding the sad state of affairs regarding the investigation and the investigators...I certainly wouldn't mind seeing an independent council appointment right about now. "letters to politicians" Posted by Cher on 05:19:39 10/03/2000 I think if you can get a stamp and envelope together, a written letter is more effective. I heard an interview on NPR Saturday where they discussed the effect of email on politicians and it was zilch. In fact, in the discussion, the interviewer said no politician interviewed had ever acted on an email petition. Politicians perceive them as "too easy" and if one is really committed, a letter and stamp is the way to go. On another topic, I'm trying to get a feeling for how many companies out there support both browsers in the workplace. If you workplace lurkers would just mention that in your post it would be of great interest to me. Muchos gracias. Cher . p.s. got your message yesterday, Ginja; thanks. It will give me something to do - throw spitballs at the TV screen, see how many hits I can get. I have decided I am hopelessly in love with Pedro this week. There is just something about that Spaniard - I'm sure China knows what it is, but she won't tell me, brat. The second set of murders mentioned in the article took place at Blue Rock Springs. That's the park we visited during the Xiana search. At that time it was not much more than a turn-out in the road. Darlene, one of the victims of that murder worked at what was then "Terry's Restaurant". The restaurant, is still there under a different name and is right next to the trailer park mentioned in the piece. The inside police information at the time is that Darlene was seen talking with Allen several times. Also there were a couple of Vallejo police officers who were said to be under suspicion because of their relationship with Darlene. "Ah, the Zodiac killer" Posted by Ev on 10:21:42 10/03/2000 Can't remember the name of the book I read, but it was by the detective handling the case at the time and the person he had homed in on really seemed like the right one. Now why can't I remember his name? Robert Graysmith's book? The guy really ruined Halloween for the little ones one year with his threats. Just about everyone kept their kids home that year. He also said something about picking them off as they came out of their school buses. Scared us all to death. My great uncle lived mere blocks from Terry's coffee shop. Anyway, lovely fall days are here in the Bay Area. Clear and beautiful. Yesterday was just too gorgeous, so instead of working at home, we went down the coast for a nice ride (and a veggie burrito at Tres Amigos) and enjoyed all the little pumpkin farms and displays all laid out for the hoard that will be descending on the weekends now. I wish I had brought the camera. Everything was glistening and perfect, and not a human in sight on a weekday. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 14. Temps in the 70s ... got a little warm walking my mile (no more than that until cooler weather). Thanks for the Zodiac killer story, ibnora ... a sad and fascinating case. Speaking of sad ... last night I spent a little time thinking about how very sad it is when people disagree about something so viciously that they judge the whole and the worth of another by the short yardstick of that one issue. There are a couple of contemporary (post Dylan) folk singers I like a lot. Instead of going over to TFP and talking about them today, I'm gonna just share a song by one of them because when it was playing (last night), the division in this forum kept slipping into my mind. there are songs that never ask you anything there are strings that beat against the wood there are songs that ease the singers heart to sing and that's good there are words that change the way you look at things there are sounds that silence idle talk and there are songs that circle in your mind and seek your heart and find it and seize it like a hawk there's a pain here that slowly slips away there's a love here that's leading us from darkness into day there are stars here that fade against the light they fall but it's alright there is a healing in this night from "A Healing in This Night" by Bob Franke give it a listen ... you'll be glad you did it's available by Kathy Mar on her mp3 page (just scroll down) and choose the speed. mp3 may ask your email addy, but it's no big deal ... just means they'll send you a news letter every couple of weeks or so. http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/22/kathy_mar.html or ... take a few minutes and go to Franke's page and opt to listen to his Kerrville concert set. "... in This Night" is his first number. http://pws.prserv.net/bobfranke/ or ... you can find it by either artist on napster. "To Seashell" Posted by digby on 14:33:06 10/03/2000 Seashell, you asked about the plastic surgery my mom had when she had her Mastectomy. They wanted to re-construct a new breast for her on the one side. The plastic surgeon made a new nipple, and then he inserted some kind of stretcher thing to slowly stretch the skin to make a new "breast pocket". This took about four months, this stretching process. Then when it was the right size, he inserted a sac of saline solution that gives the consistency of a breast, and voila! Now, because she is fairly big-busted, and a persons skin can only be stretched so far, she was going to be off balance, one big and one tiny and perky! (that is what the surgeon said: I am going to give you perky, new breasts. My mom got a giggle out of that, especially since she was 69 and he was a gorgeous young hunk). Anyway, he re-did her other breast to match so now she has two new "perky" breasts for the first time since she was about 13 years old! Another new nipple too. She takes a much smaller bra size now too, and is slowly going to have to re-stock her wardrobe. I hope that answers your questions, and I don't know if I got the whole procedure right since I didn't quiz my mom too closely about the whole thing. Close enough, anyway. I assumed everyone got this done, but perhaps it's only because she was big to start with? I have no idea. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 26. When does a poster cease to be merely a poster and become a public figure? Just my 2 cents and MHO, but some posters have walked a pretty fine line between "poster" and "case figure" because of choices they, as posters, have made. I figure if someone has used their real name with regard to this case, it's okay to post it. For example, my real name is on the registration for this domain and I have used it when interviewed for news stories, etc. So, I figure that my real name is no longer "private." "with regard to this case": meaning the poster him/herself has posted the real name on this forum? or that the real name has become known because of the gray area between public figure and merely poster? A sincere question. I think we all need to know this to keep from crossing a line when we're in that "gray area." [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 35. Susan Bennett doesn't post on this forum yet she has been on 48 Hours and in newspaper articles with her real name, therefore her real name is used in regard to this case. Mary Suma has used her real name with regard to her reporting on this case.
