Justice Watch Support JW "Member needs immediate assitance" Posted by Seeker on 14:54:00 11/21/2000 I know this probably belongs on the Front Porch, but I know from experience that more people read these threads than in there. I hope I'm not breaking any of the "house rules" by posting this thread and if I am, I am truly sorry. One of our members is in serious need of immediate financial assistance. Instead of buying, or celebrating Thanksgiving at home, they will instead be looking for a home. Due to health issues and problems securing employment, one of our posters is about to be evicted (right before the holidays) from their apartment. This poster hasn't always had the time to post, but has offered sound legal advice to many here on JW, when they did post. I am hopeful that we can all chip in help our fellow poster in their time of need. With God's help I know we can make a differnce and give this poster at least a roof to live under until their financial situation improves. Again, appologies if this is inappropriate format for this thread. This is the season for all to come together and help their fellow man (or woman) in times of need. I am willing to do all I can to help this person and their family. How about you? [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 1. "where are they?" The email address Paralegal has posted is: paralegal48@hotmail.com. Here is Paralegal's post (minus personal information). What a week we've had! My business hit a temporary lull in Oct./Nov. and my landlord and other creditors couldn't wait till I closed my next contract after Thanksgiving. I've been on the phone day and night calling churches, gov't. organizations, friends and family to beg, plead and sell whatever I have to raise the $3-5000 needed by Monday. Two months' rent, plus court costs, attorney fees, late charges, etc. is at $3000 and utilities, car and truck payments, insurance premiums make up the other almost $2000. Anyone willing to help can email me at paralegal48@hotmail.com or call me direct here in AZ at (xxx) xxx-xxxx for further info (don't want to post our address, etc. in public). Money donations need to be in the form of a money order or cashier's check and Fed Ex'd out here no later than noon Friday. I have to convert it all into a cashier's check at my bank by Monday at 8 am (MST) to stop the sheriff from "escorting" us out. It is me, my adult son and his soon to be wife, 3 pets and all of our worldly belongings. I love you all for your willingness to help shoulder our burden and it's taken me most of the afternoon to find a working url to get in here to post (God, I'm so exhausted). May our situation remind all of us of just how much we have to be thankful for as we celebrate tomorrow. Big Hugs, JW Fam!!!! I would suggest you write to either me or paralegal and get her phone number and talk to her yourself. Wise old elm has never posted here before, huh? As for me, to post a dissenting post when one hasn't built up their own credibility is enough cause to be suspect of Elm's intentions. I doubt paralegal would have allowed her personal phone number to be posted on the forum, if her circumstances were not desperate. That, coupled with the fact that she did not appeal for help and has needed it for some time now, tells me that this woman is really in need. "Trust" Posted by rachel on 08:23:29 11/23/2000 NOTE: This message was last edited 08:23:29, 11/23/2000 I know there are some who don't agree with my thinking, but I think it's better to trust and be wrong, than to NOT trust and be wrong, in dealing with such matters. I once read a story (my condensed version) about a very rich man, who was approached by a woman who told him her young daughter was very ill and needed money for surgery to be able to walk. The generous man gave the woman the money. People who knew the woman was lying, told the rich man that the woman lied to him and that her daughter didn't need the surgery, as she could walk. The generous man replied, 'What? The girl can walk? Oh, thank God, I'm so happy!' He didn't mention the fact the woman took advantage of him, he was just grateful a child was okay. For some reason, that story (true one,if I could just remember who)has always stuck with me. Of course, in just about any case of charity, it could be a ruse. I suppose we have to decide if we want to be taken advantage of or to be generous. It's a personal call, I think. Nobody's all wrong. Or are they? I don't know. "Oh My" Posted by Paralegal on 09:02:53 11/23/2000 This is exactly why I haven't said anything publicly here at JW until my dear friend Seeker and I spoke about my family's situation. She encouraged me to speak out to my JW family, believing in all of us to help in time of trouble. The calls and emails I've already received have confirmed for me there are still good people and God's grace in a very hardened world.I have spoken to quite a few of you by phone already and you are all precious indeed. But no one is under any obligation to do anything to help my family, I certainly have no expectations and no grudges. As Christians, my family is only expected to sow seeds and trust God to bless those He will with anyone having a willing heart to be used of Him to do good. As for other forums, I have posted on case at several, but JW has been my "home" for almost a year now and my integrity speaks for itself, as does Seeker's. I have made many friends here at JW whom I have helped and whom I enjoy relationships with outside of the forums, and they have been a blessing to me and my family long before we fell on hard times. If me and Seeker were the sort of people who trolled the internet promoting scams, I certainly would not be handing out very personal information about my family to those who have contacted me. Someone's hardship should never be fodder for gossip and condemnation but opportunity to invest in that life in love and compassion. There are many in these times who have a variety of hardships (life is a grab bag to be sure) and if you aren't moved to help someone else, so be it. But debating another human being's integrity merely because they dare to share just adds more pain to an already painful situation. Thank you Seeker, Starry, Bright Light and so many others, you are family indeed. Our prayers are with you in your hardships! Posted by Paralegal on 13:45:04 11/23/2000 Msracoon, you have absolutely been my heaven sent mainstay throughout this ordeal and I would not be sane and confident if not for you! Guardian, Seeker, everyone, let's just learn to love one another without fear. I've enjoyed making a huge income all these years enough to live in a very upscale bedroom community here, as have many others, but those riches did not come easy and took many many years. And I have spent thousands helping others who suffered like we are now. It can happen to anyone. My only reason for mentioning this is that during my better times, I have been scammed and exploited just because of what appears to be wealth (ha! if they'd only known). I recovered, I forgave, and I learned to trust again. Now, let me share a wonderful holiday story with ALL of you. My sister in SF called yesterday. She's a nurse practitioner making close to a $100K a year and just got canned after 3 years of serving a very abusive doctor in that capacity. She came home from the eye doctor yesterday more bad news too. Her right eye has developed a cataract and surgery is required immediately. She just had a cataract removed from the other eye last month. Her husband, a college professor, had a severe heart attack last year and we almost lost him. He's been throwing up blood all week. Losing her job, and health insurance coverage, is a devastating thing to their family. (Her daughter was diagnosed with MS last year but miraculously healed after I got on the prayer line around the country). She and my wonderful brother, who is struggling to overcome an alcohol problem developed through the last 20 years of trying to care and cope with their precious son who is daily deteriorating from muscular dystrophy and now on life support, went together and bought my family a fully prepared Thanksgiving dinner, enough for 10 people, and all we had to do was go pick it up at a grocery store 5 min. down the street! We have buried both our parents in the last 5 years, supported each other through terminal illnesses, loved our children through the worst chit life has to offer, job and business losses and worse, and in the midst of their own tragedies, they took time out to do this wonderful thing for us. I am humbled at the sacrifice and love behind this gift. Today, our house is filled with all the wonderful smells of Thanksgiving when two days ago, I couldn't provide more than a bowl of plain cooked macaroni once a day. This is love, folks, this is compassion, this is the selflessness of God Himself. As we stand prepared to lose our home and having nowhere else to go, we are mindful of how much we have been blessed. Msracoon is right. The devil's on the prowl looking for foolishly "wise" people to devour and opportunities to ruin such awesome love. I stand with you Msrac, in saying, "Hit the road, Jack, and don't you come back no more, no more, no more!" When we all sit down to dinner today, please be mindful of all God has given each one of you and despite all our tragedies and trials, give Him praise for loving us even when we don't deserve it. God bless you all for your help, support and compassion. [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 39. IMHO, I tend to align with Rachel and Mrs. Rac philosophically. I have dearly missed Paralegal lately, and am now enlightened as to why she's been absent from us (working on her own situation, no doubt.) Unto others as you would would for yourself...many times I have been in dire straits...from childhood traumas to adult travails...and EVERY time that someone showed me even the slightest kindness, it has meant EVERYTHING to me. The thought and/or the action counts for so very much during such times. No one is as capable of gratitude as one who has emerged from the kingdom of night. -- Elie Wiesel, Accepting the Nobel Peace Prize, 10 Dec 86 It is everyone's right and perogative to react to Paralegal's situation as they see fit. I am only speaking for myself, but I am thankful for all that Paralegal has been and done at Justice Watch. I wish to show my gratatude to her at this time. I acknowledge that this is a most personal and individual decision. However, consider this: let us not, on this Thanksgiving Day in particular, nay-say charity and friendship. If you think this situation is impossible to verify...then simply refrain from enjoining in the intervention. It may be prudent to not judge that which you cannot know, lest you be judged yourself. I respect the fact that some posters may have a more skeptical viewpoint than I. Me? I'd rather be wrong trying to do right, myself...neither philosophy is "wrong". And, to Paralegal: hang on...we'll do what we can, as swiftly as we can. Friday FedEx first-overnight deliveries (with Saturday delivery checked) would be the very fastest delivery route. By the way: would any of the online escrow services be fast enough to be of any help? http://www.BillPay.com, http://www.PayPal, http://www.ExchangePath.com? It would make it easier for many more to assist. It is my belief that we enrich our own soul when we extend our hand to a friend. They that hath empathy upon those in need, lendeth unto the Lord. "Prayers of Support" Posted by TymeDore on 19:58:29 11/24/2000 To Paralegal & All Believers, When you said,"When we all sit down to dinner today, please be mindful of all God has given each one of you and despite all our tragedies and trials, give Him praise for loving us even when we don't deserve it. God bless you all for your help, support and compassion", you hit true faith exactly right. Praise & Thanksgiving even when times are the toughest; He gives permission for our next heartbeat! My prayers are for you & your family. And what an "extended family" you have here! [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 48. "Pedro and TymeDore" Posted by Paralegal on 20:12:38 11/24/2000 Thank you so much for your wonderful words. Pedro, you have been a friend for a long time and I'm so glad you stopped to post on this thread. TymeDore (love that hat!), our Father is so incredible. It is so uncomfortable when we get into these tight spots, but I was reminded today that He does this on purpose so that, when we just settle down and relax, we have the awesome witness of just how much He does love us! Everyone here at JW has been incredibly kind and generous, and my family feels so loved and wanted. What a wonderful Thanksgiving this has been, one I will be sure to share with my grandchildren some day. I will keep you all posted as to our success in reaching the goal we set!!! Posted by Brightlight on 05:59:18 11/25/2000 NOTE: This message was last edited 05:59:18, 11/25/2000 ...'wise' old Elm, you say? In your dreams. Here's the deal...go ahead and send Paralegal money. IF her situation turns out to be a hoax, as you seem to think, then I'll personally reimburse you. In the meantime, don't forget the great Universal Law: "What goes around comes around." In other words you're doing to YOURSELF what you think you're doing to Paralegal. And you think that's wise? [Edited. I ask because you say the sherrif is coming on Monday. Evictions usually take about a month to go to court and then the landlord has to file a writ which takes another 2 weeks. If you haven't already gone to court, you may be able to file a "pauper's affadavit." Call your local apartment association, they may be able to send you the forms. This will usually postpone the eviction process another month or so. We have properties in Arizona. If you need assistance in finding another place, email me. If you don't still have my email address, let me know. Good luck, V
