Was re-reading one of the early CNN interviews, something John said stuck out like a sore thumb: Interview With Parents of Slain Child Beauty Queen Aired January 1, 1997 - 4:34 p.m. ET NATALIE ALLEN, CNN ANCHOR: And Brian is here, he conducted an exclusive interview today with the child's parents, John and Patricia Ramsey. BRIAN CABELL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: First of all, from a newsstand point, a couple of item's came out, the Ramsey are going to be putting together their own investigative team, they say, private investigates. This is not meant as any disrespect, they say, for the Colorado authorities. They just want the best mind possible, they say, looking into this crime. Secondly, they will be offering a reward perhaps as much as $50,000 starting next week. It has been a very difficult week as you might expect for the Ramsey family, a very difficult interview as well, we talked to them for about 45 minutes. (BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) CABELL (off-camera): Why did you decide you wanted to talk now? JOHN B. RAMSEY, JONBENET'S FATHER: Well we have been pretty isolated -- totally isolated -- for the last five days, but we've sensed from our friends that this tragedy has touched not just ourselves and our friends but many people. And we know that there's many people that are praying for us, that are grieving with us. And we want to thank them, to let them know that we are healing, and that we know in our hearts that JonBenet is safe and with God and that the grieving that we all have to do is for ourselves and for our loss, but we want to thank those people that care about us. PATRICIA RAMSEY, JONBENET'S MOTHER: We have just been overwhelmed by the cards and letters and visits and people we haven't seen for years have come to call and be supportive in their -- many of them are parents, and they know and can feel our grief. RAMSEY, J: But the other -- the other reason is that -- for our grief to resolve itself we now have to find out why this happened. " Q: Now if your child had just recently been murdered and you didn't know who had killed her, wouldn't your natural question be, "For our grief to resolve itself, we now want to know WHO killed her and why they killed her" ?? It seems awfully odd that JR says only, "we now have to find out WHY this happened." [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 2. "Chris..." Posted by PegB on 22:35:52 9/28/2000 ...here's the low down on jury duty. Sunday night Sept. 10th while driving home from Mom's in MD I noticed my right eye, which just last year had had a very successful cataract removal, was not working very well at all...Monday morning I had to report at 8:30 to my county courthouse for jury pool. Well, there were about 100 of us there. They had four trials to select juries for. They took 30 of us to the front jury seats and 40 to another courtroom for three of the trials. Turns out I am #21 on the list for a murder trial. Well, we sat ALL day, being entertained by some guards and a "tipstaff". I had never heard of a "tipstaff", but this is the person who baby sits juries or potential juries. They immediately confiscated all newspapers. and began to watch us every moment, even escorting us to the potty. By 5:30 PM they had only called 15 back to their little conference room so we were allowed to go home, having been sworn not to discuss anything about our experience. The next morning we reported back and learned they only had seated 4 jurors so far. They got to me about 1:30 PM. I went in to the little room where the judge, his assistant, the DA, his assistant, the defense team, the suspect and his family were all seated. Now Chris, you have to know, I wanted to be on this jury, I was the only person out of 100 not whinning to go home. I could taste it, all my fellow jury pool members voted me most likely to give fair judgment...but alas, it was not to be. I was questioned by the judge, and he found me acceptable, but when the DA got to me, he found out I had a son who; how shall I say this; has had some legal indiscretions; well he dismissed me. Not knowing in my very close family circle I have had not only a convict, but a judge, two lawyers, a police Captain and a police Sergeant. So that is my story. Had I been selected I would have been sequestered. The Lord knew I needed to get quickly to an eye doctor anyway, and I ended up having my detached retina repaired on Sept. 14th, so it was quite a week. I must say I was VERY impressed by the integrity of all the players involved. Each one seemed to be striving to allow "fair" justice to prevail. BTW, the young man got sentenced to 40 years on third degree murder. Hope things are well with everyone this glorious Friday... Stil seeking JfJBR - Peg Chris, are you going to Boulder in November? I had a detached retina about five years ago and had emergency surgery on my right eye (strap and buckle) and at the same time they did repair in my left eye. I am happy to say my vision is back and with eyeglasses I have almost 20/20 vision. I feel very fortunate since the surgeon could not give much hope of a full recovery. It sounds like you are doing well and are able to see to type and to read. I was not able to do that for some time after the surgery so perhaps you will have excellent results. I wish you well in a complete recovery. pisces [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 5. "Juries and all" Posted by DrTee on 23:04:12 9/28/2000 I love being on juries. I've been on three. The last one lasted a month and I found it fascinating until the deliberations, where it got really ugly. I just signed up to get an 800 number for my home phone. "Good Morning" Posted by Seashell on 00:18:43 9/29/2000 Well, guys, add me to your prayer list. The upsetting news is that I've been diagnosed with globular breast cancer this week; the good news is that it's stage one, very small, most likely NOT in the lymph nodes, tho my surgeon is going to remove some anyway and have them checked, and it looks like I'll live to be 105 after all. The surgery date is Oct. 11 and I'll need 5 weeks of radiation 5 days a week. If it's not in the nodes (the radiologist said, "I'd be shocked if it IS in the nodes"), I won't need chemo but will go on tomoxisomething for 5 years. I found out last Friday and cried for about 8 hours. Since then I've been with wonderful friends, in and out of the biopsy and other pre-surgery stuff. Monday I have another full day with the anaethesiologist - that spelling looks wrong - and other stuff. It's overwhelming when I think about it, so I try not to think much and just do the next thing. Tomorrow I have a private Argentine Tango lesson with one of the world's masters. And I think I'll go dancing tomorrow night. I don't know if I can go to Boulder yet. I should be healed up from the surgery by then but I really don't know the plan yet or when the afterstuff starts. Anyway, I prolly won't be here that much for awhile, but just let me say, THAT DEMUTH THING STINKS! Please remember me in your prayers. Thank you, forum family. If it is any consolation, my mother just went through this. Hers was also stage one, and had not gone into the lymph nodes. She did not need chemo, only radiation and she breezed through that. The worst part for her was the length of time it took for all the plastic surgery stuff (stretching skin and adding saline solution etc.). That took about 6 months. Since I am a daughter, this is something I am now very vigilant about. Can I ask you, how it was discovered? [ REMOVE ] [ ALERT ] [ EDIT ] [ REPLY ] [ REPLY WITH QUOTE ] [ TOP ] [ MAIN ] 20. "Seashell," Posted by Ev on 01:41:45 9/29/2000 I'm so sorry that you had to hear that awful truth about your body. Bad as that is, it sounds as though it has been caught in an early stage, and you certainly have my prayers and good wishes that the post-treatment will just take care of that whole thing in record time! I'm so grateful for the treatments that are out there now. Mom was literally butchered about twenty years ago, but she is alive at 90 now, and that means more to her (and us!) than anything else. Much better treatment these days. Since there are four daughters, the odds are that at least one of us will face this too. If you feel alone when surrounded by family and friends, be sure to seek out a support group, for they are the ones who REALLY know what you are going through. Please keep us posted when you feel up to it, and you will remain surrounded by the white light of love and healing, for: The Light of God surrounds you, the Love of God enfolds you, the Power of God protects you, and the Presence of God watches over you. Therefore, just put everything else on hold and have a wonderful time at this rare opportunity to receive a tango lesson from a master. In the meantime I promise to keep you in my prayers. cher - I enjoyed your story yesterday regarding your Kitty's attempt to keep you and Mr C home for the day. She probably gets bored when she's home alone. Perhaps a kitty video might help. I've heard cats like to watch all kinds of birds. Maybe Sparkie could make one;-). She probably wouldn't charge you too much for one of those home-made deals. She could video tape the chickens pecking around on some corn in the yard and even tape some cackling from the hen house. Peg B. - Glad to learn thet you are recovering nicely from your eye surgery. canadiana - I went to the orthropedic doctor for my plantar faciitis. He gave me one of those heel supports and told me that it would go away by itself, even if I did nothing about it. It disappeared completely after a month. I hope you will find relief soon. "Bad Cat" Posted by Zandra on 08:07:45 9/29/2000 NOTE: This message was last edited 08:07:45, 9/29/2000 Well, Sparks, I got my aerobic exercise late yesterday, tearing into the chicken yard to nail one of our cats who was galloping after my two-week-old baby chicks with serious determination to have one of them for supper. I had just collected eggs and was opening a can of cat food on the picnic table in front of the barn and had called the kitties over, when I heard this horrendous squawking from the mom hens. I take no responsibility for this guy's bad behavior, as I did not raise him from a kitten. He moved into the barn last January and recognized a good deal for cats at our place and refused to leave. As soon as we could catch him, we advertised for his owners (they turned out to be up the road, but never responded to our ad; did not want him back after I talked to them at the dairy store!), so we had him neutered and got him his shots and cured his ear mites. He has a little too much energy to burn. He torments chipmunks and my daughter's cat mercilessly, tears the covers off the tomatoes that we have been putting on at night to protect from frost, poops in every flower bed and even in the middle of the yard, which I have never had a cat do. I attribute it all to what must have been a poor upbringing. He would have been taken to the shelter, but he reminds me of my favorite cat who I had to put to sleep a year ago and he is a snuggle bunny who loves to be hugging someone and petted. Bad kitty. Catching it early will give us plenty of time to make sure it goes away and doesn't re-appear. You just keep on dancing and leave the prayers to us. Peg, your jury duty close call sounds so exciting, Im afraid it had been me, I'd have begged the Judge and DA to please, please, please, please take me.... I'd have nagged so much that they would have seated me just to shut me up... But, God knows best and with your retina needing surgery, it's best that you didn't. Glad to know you got it taken care of immediately. I might have missed your saying how the surgery turned out and whether or not you've regained your eyesight to it's previous state. I sure hope so. Pedro, next time perhaps I'll be better prepared. I left SLC so quickly after deciding to come home and should have called Chris before I left to gather phone numbers for me. I was just so tired after I finished packing that I neglected to. I should have..... it would have been great to meet you and China. An update on Carl, the young man who had lung cancer: His left lung was removed earlier this month and although he had to endure 5 surgeries and procedures to get the biopsy, he's recovering and re-gaining his strength. The Dr. feels as if they got his cancer 100%, so we do feel lucky in that. He is my granddaughter, Casey's, step-daddy and has been a very important person in her little 7 year old life. He truly loves her and is wonderful to and for her. Casey is blessed with having wonderful step-parents on both sides. Her parental love has just been multiplied, not divided, through the divorce. Mr. starry and I are having a good week, going out to dinner, shopping, talking and laughing together. I've managed to destroy the living room, the dining room, the bedroom and our bathroom and don't even care because I'm leaving Sunday and he'll find a way to restore order... She sits on the local RE board and said she will bring it up at the next meeting - it is a very interesting moral dilemma. Crab Dip I really didn't measure this stuff, so I'm going by memory. Two lbs of crab meat. Drain and sift through it for shells. 2 eight oz. packs of cream cheese 3/4 cup of mayonnaise 1/2 cup of sour cream 3/4 to 1 Cup Cheddar cheese, (grated). (you can use white or yellow) 1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 teaspoons of minced garlic 2 tablespoons melted butter. 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or old bay.. whatever) Spray Pam in 9X13 baking pan. Beat the cream cheese until creamy. Add crab, mayo, sour cream, garlic, lemon juice, worchestershire. Mix. Fold the cheese in. Sprinkle top with a little pepper or paprika. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 min and broil a few min to make top brown and bubbly. We just got back from the Island for a late lunch.... the Cream of Crab soup at Harbor Sounds is wonderful. There were about 35 people at the brunch and this was one of the main dishes, along with meats and cheeses on the buffet....so you can see, it serves a lot of people, also it is very rich. Everyone loved it and there was not much left either....Starry thanks for sharing it with us. Great Stuff! Starry, have you and your sweetie been back to "Naughty Gull" restaurant since you guys treated us to brunch there? What a treat! Talk about making me hungry thinking about it Py! We had crab Benedict...the no calorie type...Yea right, and bloody mary's....what a great time we had! A pretty part of the country and great people too! Anyway Starry and I thought the name was pretty appropriate for our little crowd! Ha! Can't believe you are gonna go and leave us again for 6 weeks....hope you will check in when you can, cause you are certainly missed when you are away..... This is our weekend to get our balloon basket all freshened up for the Fiesta. It is so dry out here in the SW that the wicker dries out and every so often needs to be soaked with the hose and a fresh layer of oil put on the surface to keep it pliable for landings. Also I get brown shoe polish to polish and buff the leather on the basket edge and leather upright covers. Mr. V. will pick up the new banner advertising our company to be velcroed onto the peremiter for the Fiesta. Then Voyager will be all set for the following weekend for the start of the 10 day fiesta. Should be a fun and exhausting time.... Then Sunday is our annual green chili roasting day. We always roast two large gunny sacks of fresh green chili, and put them up in the freezer for cooking for the coming year. Yep, we alway use all of it! Only have three baggies of green chili left in the freezer from last fall's batch....cutting it a little close, and Mr. V. getting a little nervous about it too as he is the worst chili addict you have ever seen! Anyway, we spend all day on the patio in the wonderful fall air roasting the chili on the BBQ grill, and it smells just heavenly....I meanwhile put on a big pot of green chili stew for us and the kids or anyone who drops by to watch football or help out....it is alway a marker for us that autumn has begun.
